Softball: Four earn weekly honors
Four student-athletes were named Lone Star Conference Softball Players of the Week for their performances last week, league officials announced today.
LSC SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
LSC North Hitter
Benita Sanchez, Southeastern Oklahoma State University
Jr., Infielder, Farmington, N.M./Farmington HS
Sanchez posted a .692 week at the plate in helping SOSU to a sweep
of Southwestern Oklahoma State. She had eight RBI and scored
six runs. She was 9-for-13 at the plate, posting a slugging
percentage of .923 and an OBP of .733. She was perfect in the
field at first base on 22 chances. She picked up a hit in
every game last week and now has an eight game hitting streak to
date.
Co-LSC North Pitcher
Lacee Craig, Northeastern State University
Jr., Pitcher, Bartlesville, Okla./Bartlesville High School
Lacee Craig picked up two victories over Midwestern State
this week. Allowing two runs, seven hits as opposing batters
hit just .146 against her. Craig allowed just one-hit in the
first meeting in a 1-0 RiverHawks victory and allowed two runs on
six hits in the second to move to 13-8 on the year.
Molly Shivers, University of Central Oklahoma
So., Pitcher, Meeker, Okla./Meeker
Shivers handcuffed a hard-hitting Cameron team last week,
going 3-0 with a 1.70 ERA. The Aggies, batting .309 on the
season, hit just .167 against Shivers, who went the distance in two
games while also earning a win in relief. She gave up four
hits and two runs in a 12-1 six-inning win in Lawton, then allowed
three hits and two runs in a 12-2 five-inning victory in
Edmond. Shivers pitched 1 1/3 innings of no-hit relief in
picking up the win in UCO's 7-6 series finale victory.

Jessica Shiery, Abilene Christian University
Jr., Catcher, Windsor, Calif./Windsor High School
Jessica Shiery's brilliant season continued for the
Wildcats last week as she led ACU to a 4-1 record. Shiery's
hitting and defense helped guide ACU to a doubleheader sweep on
Tuesday against Incarnate Word, and also allowed the Wildcats to
take 2 of 3 from Eastern New Mexico over the weekend to clinch an
LSC postseason berth. Over the five game stretch, Shiery hit
.643 (9 of 14), had a .737 on-base-percentage, drove in seven runs,
and scored six runs. For the year, Shiery is batting a
LSC-leading .473, has 62 hits (18 of which are doubles), eight home
runs, 33 RBI, and a .596 on-base-percentage.
LSC South Pitcher
Kari Galm, Angelo State University
Sr., Pitcher, San Antonio, Texas/O'Connor HS
Senior Kari Galm kept her LSC South record unblemished
with two more wins over the weekend. Galm improved to 13-0 in
divisional play after pitching two gems at Texas
A&M-Kingsville. On Friday, Galm recorded her 11th shutout of
the season in a 3-0 win over TAMUK, giving up just one hit, a bunt
single in the third inning, as the only base runner allowed in the
victory. She fanned six in her 19th complete game of the season.
Galm followed that up with four-inning two-hit performance in
Saturday's 8-0 win over Javelinas. In 11 innings of work, she held
TAMUK to just three hits for an .086 batting average with eight
strike outs to no walks. Galm is now 26-2 on the season.
