Softball: ASU headed to National Championship!
Angelo State utilized the long ball en route to a 9-0 win over Southeastern Oklahoma to win the 2009 NCAA Division II South Central Super Regional and earn a spot in the National Championship field.
The Rambelles will play Indianapolis, winners of the Midwest Region, on Thursday, May 21, at 11 a.m. CST in Salem, Va. ASU is making its third appearance in the Championship Finals in the past six seasons, also winning the regional crown in 2004 and 2007. The Rambelles claimed the NCAA D-II National Championship in 2004.
After taking the first contest of the best-of-three series 1-0 by stealing home in a pitcher's duel on Friday, ASU hit four home runs to clinch the super regional on Saturday in game two.
The Rambelles now have 89 home runs on the season, surpassing the Lone Star Conference record for long balls in a season. Cameron set the previous mark of 87 homers last season. ASU now has five players with 10 or more home runs this season.
