April 10, 2008 Tennis: Mullor, Seca pick up weekly awards CU's Jordi MullorCameron's Jordi Mullor and Viviana Seca earned Lone Star
Conference Tennis Player of the Week honors for their performances
last week, the league office announced today.
LSC TENNIS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Men's Player of the Week
Jordi Mullor, Cameron University
Sr., Tennis Player - No. 1, Coatzacoalcos, Mexico
This week Cameron senior Jordi Mullor played some very
solid tennis and won all four of his matches at the No. 1 spot on
the Aggie squad. In Cameron's early week match versus Midwestern
State University, Mullor and partner David Pazos got things started
on the right foot with an 8-3, decisive victory in the No. 1
doubles spot. Mullor then continued his great play in the No. 1
singles position where he won handily, 6-1, 6-0. The very next day
the Aggies traveled to Ada, Oklahoma, to take on the #35 East
Central Tigers. In the match with ECU, Mullor and Pazos again won
the No. 1 doubles match, this time winning 8-2. In his single
match, Mullor won the match quickly 6-2, 6-4. Mullor has done a
great job for Coach Helvey at the No. 1 position all year.
Women's Player of the Week
Viviana Seca, Cameron University
Jr., Tennis Player - No. 4 Position, Caracas, Venezuela
This week Cameron junior Viviana Seca played a huge role
in the jump the Aggie women's tennis team took in the national
rankings. In Cameron's first match of the week, the team (then
ranked #30) took on a very tough #21 East Central Tigers team. CU
and ECU were tied at 4 matches a piece with the final, tie-breaking
match still on the court in the form of Seca and the No. 4 singles
spot. In the match Seca rebounded from losing the opening set to
win it in a tie-breaker 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4). Both teams and a
number of fans were watching, and Seca was able to win the set
tie-breaker, and the entire match tie-breaker, even with all of the
added pressure. Earlier in the day Seca had paired with Megan
deBlonk to win the No. 2 doubles match, 8-4. Seca then won both of
her matches when CU hosted St. Mary's University. Seca won her No.
4 singles match in decisive fashion, 6-1, 6-0, and once again
teamed with deBlonk to win the No. 2 doubles match, 8-2. With the
overall team victory, Cameron head coach James Helvey won his 500th
career match as head coach. After starting out the week 4-0, Seca
split her doubles and singles match when CU hosted Northeastern
State. Seca lost her No. 4 singles match 6-2, 6-2, but yet again
won her No. 2 doubles match with deBlonk. The duo's 8-3 win was
CU's only victory in their 8-1 loss to NSU. CU then finished the
week against #2 Armstrong Atlantic, and the team was swept 9-0.
Seca could not win either her doubles or singles match, but played
extremely well.
