April 20, 2007 LSC announces Track & Field weekly honorsFour track and field standouts have been recognized with Lone
Star Conference Athlete of the Week honors for meets April 13-20.
The awards were announced Friday by league officials.
The weekly awards will continue through the LSC Championships
Meet, which is slated for May 4-6 in Commerce, Texas.

LSC Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Johnny Jacob, Abilene Christian
sprinter, 5-10, 165, sr, 1VL, Houston (Alief Hastings HS)
In his first 400 meter race outdoors this spring, Jacob
posted a provisional qualifying time in the event en route to
winning the 400 meters at the David Noble Relays in San Angelo.
Jacob posted his qualifying time of 47.64 while winning the 400
meters, and it is the sixth-best time in Division II this season.
LSC Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Abel Garcia, Texas A&M-Kingsville
So., Del Rio, Texas
Abel won the hammer throw with a season best effort of 165-7 at the
Battle of the Cacti Meet in Corpus Christi, beating Division I
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's throwers. He also finished second in
the discus and fourth in the shot put.
LSC Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Danielle Stinnette, Texas A&M-Kingsville
Sr., Los Angeles, Calif.
Stinnette won both the 100 and 200 meter dashes and ran on the
winning 4 x 100-meter relay team as the Javelina women's track team
to a 115-64 dual meet win over Division I Texas A&M-Corpus
Christi at the Battle of the Cacti Meet in Corpus Christi.
Stinnette ran an 11.7 in the 100 meters and 25.2 in the 200 meters
and the 4 x 100 team ran a 48.2.
LSC Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Jessica Withrow, Abilene Christian
Heptathlete, 5-5, soph, 1VL, Muleshoe, Texas (Muleshoe
HS)
Withrow won the heptathlon last Friday at the David Noble
Multi-Event Meet in San Angelo with the best point total in NCAA
Division II women's track and field this season. Withrow had the
previous season best point total in the nation (4,864 points), but
she topped that total last weekend with a season-best 4,892 points
en route to winning the event championship at the ASU Multipurpose
Stadium.
LSC Track & Field Notes
• This week's awards mark the first of the 2007
spring season for LSC track and field. The weekly honors will be
presented throughout the spring as the league teams prepare for the
LSC Championships Meet on May 4-6 in Commerce, Texas.
- A&M-C's Leslie White finished 2nd place overall at the
Boathouse Sports North Texas Classic in Denton on April 14. In his
2nd place overall finish in the javelin, White was the top finisher
among collegians at the meet, with his distance of 167'6".
- ENMU's Kyle Harris placed third in the triple jump at the David
Noble Relays in San Angelo, TX. Harris turned in a jump of 49-0.75
at his first meet of the season. This jump was Kyle's personal
record.
- TAMUK's Kendra Lilly won four field events to pace the Javelina
women's track team to a 115-64 dual meet win over Division I Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi at the Battle of the Cacti Meet in Corpus
Christi. Lilly won the hammer, javelin, discus and shot put. Her
throw of 45-8 in the shot put was her best of the season and
improved on her NCAA provisional qualifying mark set earlier this
season.
- A&M-C's Britney Fisher placed in the top-10 in both the
shot put and discus events at the Boathouse Sports North Texas
Classic in Denton on April 14. In the shot put, she finished 10th
place, with a throw of 34'7.5". In the discus, she finished 3rd,
with a distance of 126'2".
- In her first time running the 200m this spring, A&M-C's
Katie Barthold recorded a team-best time of 26.61 seconds at the
Boathouse Sports North Texas Classic in Denton on April 14. The
meet was difficult for most participants, due to the high winds
that were present.
- A&M-C's Kyle Thompson set a new season-best in the 110m
hurdles, with a time of 14.89 seconds, improving his previous best
of 14.95 seconds. Thompson finished 4th place overall the Boathouse
Sports North Texas Classic in Denton on April 14. In his 4th place
finish overall, Thompson finished 2nd among collegians. Thompson's
time of 14.89 also puts him in the top-5 in the Lone Star
Conference.
- ENMU's Dennis Kerg ran a time of 1:55.83 at the David Noble
Relays in San Angelo, TX. This time was a season best for Dennis.
He also ran on the anchor leg of the 4x400-meter relay.
- The ACU men's track team has already posted 19 provisional
qualifiers in 10 events and one provisional relay (4x100) and four
automatic qualifiers in five events three weeks before the LSC
championship meet. ... The women's team, meanwhile, has posted 14
provisional qualifiers in 11 events and one relay (4x100) and one
automatic qualifier in an individual event and one relay (4x400).
... The ACU men have the top-ranked athlete in the 10,000 meters
(Nicodemus Naimadu), pole vault (Kyle Dennis) and the triple jump
(Davy Manga). ... The ACU women, meanwhile, have the top-ranked
athlete in the 800 meters (Mary Mwangi), 3000 steeplechase (Olha
Kryv'yak), 4x400 relay (Venessa Whittle, Denise Morgan, Mary Mwangi
and Azraa Rounds), pole vault (Angie Aguilar), and heptathlon
(Jessica Withrow).
