Track & Field weekly awards announced
Four track and field standouts have been recognized with Lone Star Conference Athlete of the Week honors for meets April 19-26. The award was announced Thursday by league officials.
The weekly awards will continue through the LSC Championships Meet, which is slated for May 4-6 in Commerce, Texas.

LSC Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Nicodemus Naimadu, Abilene Christian
Distance, 5-9, 125, Sr., 2VL, Narok, Kenya (Rio Linda
HS)
Naimadu's phenomenal season continued Saturday night when he set
the meet record in the 5000 meters at the TCU Invitational. Naimadu
turned in a time of 14:13.54 to shatter the old meet record of
14:33.36 set in 2002 by Moses Kimeli of South Plains College.
Naimadu wasn't even pushed in the race, beating the runner-up
finisher (Daniel Maina of Cowley County College) by more than 22
seconds and bettering his existing provisional qualifying mark for
next month's NCAA Division II outdoor championship meet.
LSC Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Larry Gilbert, Texas A&M-Commerce
Senior, Bryan, Texas
At the TCU Invitational on Saturday, with his third throw in the
discus, Gilbert recorded a NCAA provisional mark with a throw of
164-11 (50.27m). The mark for the Bryan, Texas native eclipsed his
season-best mark by five feet en route to a second place overall
finish. In addition, it is the second-best throw to date in the
Lone Star Conference. He also was fourth in the shot put with a
throw of 50-10 1/4 (15.50m). His throw is the 10th best-to-date in
the NCAA Division II.
LSC Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Olha Kryv'yak, Abilene Christian
Distance, 5-5, sr, 3VL, Lviv, Ukraine
Kryv'yak won the 1500 meters Saturday night at the TCU
Invitational with a time of 4:31.40, which betters her previous
provisional qualifying time by two seconds.
LSC Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Adree Lakey, Angelo State
So., Sylvester, TX (Roby HS)
Lakey recorded three season-best marks at the Michael Johnson
Classic in Baylor on Saturday. She claimed the title of the shot
put with a provisional-qualifying throw of 48'10". She added a
second-place finish in the discus (156' 2") and a third place
finish in the javelin (136' 6"), both also provisional qualifying
marks.
LSC Track & Field Notes
• This week's awards mark the sixth of the 2007 spring season for LSC track and field. The weekly honors will be presented throughout the spring as the league teams prepare for the LSC Championships Meet on May 4-6 in Commerce, Texas.
- ASU's Trista McIntyre nearly added her third
provisional-qualifying mark of 2007 with a second-place finish in
the 5,000-meter run. Her personal best time of 17:47.70 earned her
second place and was just five seconds shy of the NCAA DII
provisional mark.
- A&M-C's Niki Williams set a season-best in both 1,500-meter
run (4:56.31,10th) and in the 5,000-meter run (19:10.66, fourth) at
the TCU Invitational.
- TSU's Kandis Brooks turned in a provisional qualifying mark of
14.52 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles when she won the Michael
Johnson Classic preliminary heat. She then took second in the
finals with a time of 14.26.
- A&M-C's Haley Wright improved on her season-best throw in
the javelin at the TCU Invitational with a throw of 91-0 (27.73m,
eighth).
- TSU's Cassidy Porter finished second in the women's high jump
after clearing a height of 1.65 meters (5-05.00).
- A&M-C's Leonard Jackson lowered 16-hundredths of a second
off his season-best time in the 200-meter dash (22.17, 26th place)
at the TCU Invitational. He also was a member of the 4x100-meter
relay (42.79, seventh) as the second leg and the lead leg of the
4x400-meter relay (3:21.67, seventh) that also established
season-best performances.
- TSU's Rey Hinojosa broke his own school record in the
1,500-meter invitational with a time of 3:51.94 to take fourth and
set another provisional qualifying mark.
- ASU's Andrew Crookham earned three Top 5 finishes including the
title of the shot put at the Michael Johnson Classic on Saturday.
His shot put toss of 48' 7 1/2" was tops by nearly two inches. He
added a personal best in the discus with a fourth-place throw of
137' 4", and a fifth-place finish in the hammer with a throw of
121' 7".
- TSU's Stephen Dombrowski turned in a provisional qualifying
mark in the javelin with a throw of 60.25 meters (197-08). He also
finished fourth in the high jump on a judge's decision after
clearing 1.90 meters (6-02.75).
- Tarleton's Garrett Thomas set another provisional qualifying mark in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.41 to win the Michael Johnson Classic in Waco Saturday.
