LSC announces Track & Field weekly honors



Four track and field student-athletes have been recognized with Lone Star Conference Athlete of the Week honors for competition last week, league officials announced today.

LSC TRACK & FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
LSC Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Desmond Jackson, Abilene Christian University, Fr., Sprinter, Midland, Texas/Midland Lee High School
Jackson ran the Lone Star Conference's top time this season last Friday en route to winning the 100 meters in a time of 10.60 seconds.  Jackson's time is a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Division II outdoor championship meet and is the nation's sixth-best time this season.  

LSC Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Davy Manga, Abilene Christian University, Sr., Jumper, Paris, France/Lycee Pierre Menoles
Manga posted the top collegiate jump in the nation (regardless of division) last Friday in ACU's triangular meet against Baylor and North Texas in Abilene.  Manga won the triple jump competition with a mark of 52 feet, 8.75 inches (16.07m), the top mark in the NCAA this season.  That mark is also an automatic qualifying mark for next month's NCAA Division II outdoor championship meet.  Manga is the defending outdoor national champion in the triple jump.

LSC Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Winrose Karunde, Abilene Christian University, Fr., Distance, Nyeri, Kenya\South Tetu Girls High School

Karunde, the NCAA Division II indoor national champion in the 5000 meters, ran the nation's top time in the 3000 meters last Friday in ACU's triangular meet against Baylor and North Texas in Abilene.  Karunde covered the 3000 meters in 9:52.22, a provisional qualifying mark that is the nation's best time so far this season.

LSC Women's Field Athlete of the Week
La'Shara Jefferson, Texas A&M University-Commerce, Jr., Throws, Lancaster, Texas/Lancaster HS/Louisiana-Monroe

Jefferson finished ninth with a season-best throw of 142-4 en route to a ninth-place finish in the discus at the Bobby Lane Invitational. In addition, Jefferson was 16th in the shot put (34-10 1/2).
