ACU's Karunde Winrose

Four track and field student-athletes have been recognized with Lone Star Conference Athlete of the Week honors for competition last week, league officials announced today.

LSC TRACK & FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
LSC Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Brad Dotson, Texas A&M University-Commerce, Sr., Mid-Distance, Spring Hill, Texas/Spring Hill HS

Dotson was victorious in a season-best time of 48.98 in the 400-meter dash at the McMurry Relays. He was also the lead leg of the Lions 4x400-meter relay team that took second in a season-best time of 3:20.6.

LSC Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Camille Vandendriessche, Abilene Christian University, Sr., Decathlete, Paris, France/Institut Notre Dame
Vandendriessche, the defending national champion in the decathlon, turned in the nation's top point total in the event last weekend at the 81st Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.  Vandendriessche scored 7,559 points over the two-day event, including an ACU-record 3,902 second-day points, qualifying automatically for next month's NCAA Division II outdoor championship meet.  Vandendriessche enjoyed an outstanding second day, especially in the field events. He broke the ACU decathlon record in the discus with a throw of 162-10, which is also a provisional qualifying mark in that individual event for the national meet. He bettered his provisional mark in the pole vault with a vault of 15-11.0 to score 865 points.

LSC Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Winrose Karunde, Abilene Christian University, Fr., Distance, Nyeri, Kenya/South Tetu Girls High School
Karunde won two events last weekend at the 81st Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, winning both the 5000 meters and the 3000 meter Steeplechase.  She won both in convincing fashion, turning in the nation's best time in the steeplechase with a winning time of 10:29.81.  She also won the 5000 meters with the nation's second-best time of 17:04.30.  Karunde is also second in the nation in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:52.22.  Karunde's steeplechase time is a freshman record at ACU and makes her the third-fastest performer in the event in school history.  Her 5000 meter time makes her the fifth-fastest performer in school history.

LSC Women's Field Athlete of the Week
