April 16, 2008 LSC announces Track & Field weekly honors Four track and field student-athletes have been recognized with
Lone Star Conference Athlete of the Week honors for competition
last week, league officials announced today.
LSC TRACK & FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
LSC Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Jordan Johnson, Abilene Christian University, So., Sprinter,
Mesquite, Texas/Mesquite Poteet High School
After missing most of the last two seasons, Johnson
finally appears to be rounding into the form that made him the NCAA
Division II outdoor national champion in the 400 meters as a
freshman in 2006. ... Last Saturday at the Texas Tech Invitational
in Lubbock, Johnson provisionally qualified for next month's
outdoor championship meet in both the 200 meters and 400 meters.
... He was third in the 400 meters in 47.21 and he was fifth in the
200 meters in 21.30. ... Johnson wasn't through, however, as he
anchored the Wildcats' 4x100 relay team to a winning time of 39.97
seconds, the best time in NCAA Division II this season and
13th-best collegiate time in the nation in 2008.
LSC Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Chase Moore, Angelo State University, Jr., Multis, Iraan,
Texas
Moore better his provisional-qualifying mark in the
decathlon as he won the multi-event at the 37th Annual ASU/David
Noble Relays last week. Moore ended the 10 events with 6,487
points, giving ASU two solid marks for the national championships,
joining sophomore Jake Halfmann (6,494, ASU Spring Break Multis).
Moore added a season best in the pole vault on Saturday as part of
the open meet, placing fifth with a mark of 14-1.25.
LSC Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Keva Wilkins, Abilene Christian University, Sr., Sprinter,
Manchester, Jamaica/Holmwood Technical High School
In just her second meet of the year, Keva Wilkins
automatically qualified in the 400 meters for next month's NCAA
Division II outdoor championship meet by finishing second in the
event Saturday at the Texas Tech Invitational. ... Wilkins turned
in a time of 53.43, which is the fastest time in NCAA Division II
track and field this year and the ninth-fastest collegiate time in
the nation.
LSC Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Adree Lakey, Angelo State University, Jr. ,
Throws, Sylvester, Texas/Roby HS
Already an automatic qualifier in the shot put, discus and
javelin entering the weekend, junior Adree Lakey recorded her
fourth automatic qualifying mark in the hammer at the 37th Annual
ASU/David Noble Relays. Lakey will officially have a chance to
defend her national title as she won the hammer at the ASU Relays
with a throw of 182-6, just under two feet shy of her school record
toss to win the national championship last year. She also won the
discus (150-7) and the shot put (49-2.25) on Saturday.
