LSC announces Track & Field weekly honors
Four track and field student-athletes have been recognized with Lone Star Conference Athlete of the Week honors for competition last week, league officials announced today.
LSC TRACK & FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
LSC Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Raymond Radway, Abilene Christian University, Jr., Sprinter,
Mesquite, Texas/McKinney North High School
Raymond Radway posted the nation's second-best time in
the 400 meters last Saturday as he won the event at the Michael
Johnson Classic at Baylor in a time of 46.24. Radway - who
beat Baylor all-America Marcus Boyd (second in 46.82) in the race
- was the only Wildcat to automatically qualify Saturday at
the Baylor meet.
LSC Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Nick Jones, Abilene Christian University, Fr., Thrower, Amarillo,
Texas/Amarillo Tascosa High School
Nick Jones won both the discus throw and the shot put
last Saturday at the Michael Johnson Classic at Baylor. Jones
won the shot put (52-8.25) with a provisional qualifying mark for
next month's NCAA Division II outdoor championship meet. He
then won the discus throw with a mark of 173-3. Jones has
already automatically qualified for the national meet in the
discus.
LSC Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Britney Stephens, Eastern New Mexico University, Fr., Sprints,
Miliani, Hawaii/Miliani High School
Britney Stephens placed fourth in the 100-meter dash at
12.53 and fifth in the 200-meter dash in 26.34, both season-best
performances
LSC Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Adree Lakey, Angelo State University, Jr., Throws, Sylvester,
Texas/Roby HS
Junior Adree Lakey recorded the top mark in NCAA Division
II this season in the javelin throw on Saturday as she won the
event with a toss of 158-1 at the Michael Johnson Open in Waco. She
also won the hammer with a throw of 175-8 and placed second in both
the shot put (46-8.25) and discus (158-2). Lakey has recorded
automatic qualifying marks in all four events this season.
