Track & Field: ACU wins both men's and women's team titles



Abilene Christian claimed both the men's and women's team titles at the 2008 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the first time since 1999 at the event in Walnut, Calif.

It's the seventh time ACU has won both team titles.  The Wildcats also had eight individual winners in the men's and women's competition.

The ACU men won their seventh straight national title and 18th overall NCAA outdoor championship.  The Wildcats scored 108.50 points to finish in front of St. Augustine's (102).  Nick Jones (discus), Daniel Maina (3000-meter steeplechase), Billy Walker (110-hurdles), Camille Vandendriessche (decathlon for second straight season) and Raymond Radway (400-meters) each won individual crowns.

On the women's side, ACU ran away from the field with 76.50 points to 55 for runner-up Adams State.  Linda Brivule (javelin - meet record 169-9) and Keva Wilkins (400-meters) won NCAA titles, while Winrose Karunde was a double-winner (3000-meter steeplechase - meet record time 10:20.42 and 10,000 meters).

Angelo State's Adree Lakey won the discus with a personal best throw of 161-7.

ASU's teams finished 16th and 52nd in the women's and men's standings, respectively, while Tarleton State's men were 42nd.
