ACU favored in cross county preseason poll
Abilene Christian is the unanimous choice to win the 2008 Lone Star Conference men's and women's cross country championships, according to the league's preseason poll announced on Thursday.
ACU received all 18 first-place votes for a total of 162 points in the men's poll, while the Wildcats were the top choice on all 26 ballots for 312 points on the women's side.
In 2007, ACU's men won their 17th straight conference title, while the women won their seventh consecutive crown. The men's program also captured their second consecutive NCAA Division II team championship last season.
Nine men's teams and 12 women's teams start their season in September, while the postseason begins with the LSC Championships hosted by Texas A&M-Kingsville, on October 25, 2008.
