Dwayne Nix, from Kingsville, Texas, was a wideout for the Javelinas from 1965-68.  He was named to the Associated Press Little All-America first team in 1966, 1967 and 1968 and became the second person ever on the squad for three consecutive years.  Nix earned All-Lone Star Conference team honors twice and was named to the LSC Team of the Decade for the 1960s.  He served as a captain of the 1968 team that reached the NAIA national championship game. 

      In 1975, Nix was selected to the TAMUK 50th Anniversary Team. He played on two LSC championship squads, including the 1967 team that went 9-0 and became the school’s first undefeated and untied squad.  Nix was on the All-Texas College first team in 1966 and 1967.  At the end of his collegiate career, he held most of the Javelinas receiving records and was part of teams that compiled a 30-10 record.

      Nix was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2003 and the Javelina Hall of Fame in 1979.  He served on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps including a tour in Vietnam as a helicopter gunship pilot.  After completion of his active duty and a five-year assignment in Iran with the Department of the Navy he joined the Marine Corps Reserves.  During his 23 years in the reserve, Nix was activated three times including flying helicopter transport and medivac missions in Operation Desert Storm.  He retired from the Marine Corps in 2003 as a Colonel.  Nix worked for the Department of Navy for 29 years before retiring in 2006.

      He currently resides in Virginia.  He and his wife, Sandy, have two sons and five grandchildren.  His son Andy is a Major in the Marine Corps and serving on the U.S. Pacific Command staff.
