Walton made his mark for ENMU as the starting middle linebacker from 1996-99. He started every game and led the Greyhounds in tackles each year including a school record 155 stops in 1997. Walton finished his career as the program's all-time leading tackler with 515.
Walton was named to four All-American teams in his final two seasons and was the 1998 LSC South Division Defensive Lineman of the Year. In his senior season, Walton led the Greyhounds to a share of the LSC South Division title.
A two-time first team All-LSC South selection, Walton has also excelled in the classroom. He was named to the LSC All-Academic Team three times and selected to the GTE Academic All-District First Team as a senior.
After his notable playing career, Walton transitioned to the sidelines as a defensive and special teams’ guru. He has served as a coach for 15 years with two successful stops at ENMU and time at Sam Houston State, New Mexico Military Institute, Angelo State, Stephen F. Austin, and Missouri Western. He is currently the special teams coordinator at Tarleton.
Walton was a 2005 inductee to the ENMU Hall of Honors.
