Angelo State, Abilene Christian, Tarleton State and West Texas A&M each won their quarterfinal match to advance to the semifinals Friday at the Lone Star Conference Volleyball Championship.
Angelo State 3, Central Oklahoma 0
The No. 3 seed Angelo State defeated the No. 6 seed Central Oklahoma 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 26-24) in the opening game of the Lone Star Conference Championship held at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" on the campus of West Texas A&M University on Thursday afternoon.
The win lifts the Rambelles to 18-11 overall, while the Bronchos finish the season with a 20-11 overall record.
The Rambelles were led by Chelsea Gibson with 13 kills and Alex Woolsey who registered a team high 38 assists. Central Oklahoma was led by Zuela Adom with 13 kills and Fleming Smurthwaite with 24 assists.
Angelo State advances to the semifinals on Friday evening at 5 p.m. against the winner of the Abilene Christian/Texas Woman's matchup.
No. 22 Abilene Christian 3, Texas Woman’s 0
The No. 2 seed and No. 22 nationally ranked Abilene Christian defeated the No. 7 seed Texas Woman's 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-22) in the first round of the Lone Star Conference Championship held on the campus of West Texas A&M at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box".
The win improves the Wildcats to 26-4 overall, while TWU finishes their season with an 11-18 mark.
ACU was led by Kalynne Allen with nine kills and Ijeoma Moronu with 29 assists. The Wildcats combined for 11 team blocks in the game. The Pioneers were led by Katelyn Osborne with nine kills and Sydney Veitenheimer with 27 assists.
With the win, the Wildcats advance to the semifinals against Angelo State at 5 p.m. on Friday evening. The Rambelles swept Central Oklahoma in the first match of the day.
Tarleton State 3, Midwestern State 2
The No. 5 seed Tarleton State defeated the No. 4 seed Midwestern State 3-2 (25-10, 21-25, 21-25, 25-16, 16-14) in the first round of the Lone Star Conference Championship being held at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" on the campus of West Texas A&M.
The TexAnns improve their overall record to 23-9, which set a new school record for wins in a season. The Mustangs finish the season at 15-14 overall.
Tarleton was led by Rachel Wolf with 21 kills and Jessie Hartman with 32 assists. The TexAnns also compiled 16 total blocks compared to the Mustang's 12. MSU was led by Sheli Stewart with nine kills and Kimberly Jeffrey with 27 assists.
The TexAnns advance to the semifinals tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. against the winner of the West Texas A&M and Incarnate Word match.
West Texas A&M 3, Incarnate Word 0
Top seed West Texas A&M defeated No. 8 seed Incarnate Word 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-17) in the final quarterfinal match of the Lone Star Conference Championship held on the campus of West Texas A&M at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box".
The win improves the Lady Buffs to 25-8 overall making it the sixth consecutive season with at least 25 wins. The Cardinals end their season with a 9-15 mark.
The Lady Buffs were led by Erika Dupree with 12 kills and 22 digs and teammate Lauren Thedford registered 13 digs. Incarnate Word was led by Stephanie Bonura with 12 kills and Danielle Suarez with 18 assists.
WT advances to the semifinals Friday against the No. 5 seed Tarleton State with a 7:30 p.m. start time. The TexAnns defeated Midwestern State earlier in the day in five sets to advance.
