Cameron’s Peter Svajlen was named Academic Player of the
Year and joined four others on the All-Academic Team Sunday night
as Lone Star Conference officials announced the academic honors for
men’s golf at the championship awards banquet.
Svajlen, a senior business
management major fro Bratislava, Slovakia, earned the
league’s top academic honor and was joined Northeastern
State’s Brady Wood, East Central’s Michael Vassella,
Southwestern Oklahoma’s Dakota Brown and Texas
A&M-Commerce’s Dustin Gideon on the team.
Svajlen, who was granted a
medical hardship waiver last season, placed second three times this
season, along with six top-10 finishes. The 2007 and 2008
Academic Player of the Year, he was a NCAA Division II All-American
and All-LSC first team selection in 2008.
To be eligible for LSC academic
honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point
average and be at least a sophomore, both academically and
athletically. The Academic Player of Year award and All-Academic
Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players,
with the league’s sports information directors voting on the
basis of both academic and athletic achievement. All qualifying
student-athletes not selected for the All-Academic Team are then
named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
In addition to the five players
on the All-Academic Team, three more garnered LSC
Commissioner’s Honor Roll acclaim.
