Women’s Soccer preseason honors announced

A trio of Lone Star Conference women’s soccer stars were tabbed for preseason honors for 2010 league officials announced Tuesday.

West Texas A&M claimed two of the awards as Lindsay McHorse was named Offensive Player of the Year and Nadia James was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year, while Texas Woman’s Nori Morgan earned Goalkeeper of the Year acclaim.

All three were the popular choices in a vote of LSC head coaches and sports information directors, plus various media representatives from throughout the region.

McHorse, a junior midfielder from Georgetown, Texas, was a first-team all-LSC choice after leading the Lady Buffs in most offensive categories in 2009 including goals (13), assists (8), total points (34), and game-winners (7). She currently has 27 career goals which ranks fourth all-time in WT history.

James, a junior defender from Trinidad & Tobago, was a first-team all-LSC selection last season. She paced a WTAMU defense which allowed a mere 13 goals for a league-leading .56 goals against average and 14 shutouts in 2009.

Morgan, a senior goalkeeper from Plano, Texas, is the reigning LSC Goalkeeper of the Year, after starting all 19 games in net for the Pioneers last season posting 8-9-2 record with 0.98 goals against average, .843 save percentage and seven shutouts. She ranked first in the conference in saves (102) and third in shutouts. She was also named to the first-team National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South Central Region and all-LSC squads.

The trio will lead their respective teams onto the pitch in early September as the 2010 season begins. The LSC has 12 teams ready to play this fall, with each team playing an 11-game conference schedule as part of its regular season slate.
