Incarnate Word led all teams with eight players selected to the All-Lone Star Conference first team as the 2011 men's soccer awards were announced on Wednesday.
The Cardinals were represented on the first team by James Nero, Edward Estrada, Callum Riley, Carlos Picado, Abraham Campos, Chuy Cortes, Vinny Bailey and Chris Fidler. In addition, UIW’s Riley was tabbed Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year.
Lone Star Conference champion Eastern New Mexico had six players recognized with Matt Malak earning co-Freshman of the Year acclaim.
Midwestern State had six players honored plus two special awards with Ryan Spence claiming his second straight Defensive Player of the Year honor, and Doug Elder tabbed Coach of the Year for the fourth successive year.
West Texas A&M’s Conrad Grouldbourne was named co-Freshman of the Year to lead a group of four Buffaloes distinguished.
Rounding out the All-Conference first team was MSU’s Spence, David Freeland, Chris Dwyer and Nathan Fitzgerald , ENMU’s Michael Stewart, Andy Wilkinson and Matt Malak, and WT’s Rodrigo Morin.
