LSC Tennis: CU's Janjic and Puckhaber collect weekly awards

MEN’S
Duje Janjic, Cameron University, JR, Split, Croatia
Janjic displayed excellent form in Cameron’s three matches during the week. He kicked things off by taking out Abilene Christian’s Borja Cortes by a score of 7-6(4), 7-5. He and partner Angelo Lencioni picked up a doubles win against conference rival ACU as well. The twosome defeated Cody McCarty and Michael Morris in an 8-6 decision. The next action for the Aggies came against Laredo College, a team ranked second in the nation in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. Janjic put forth exceptional effort, but fell to nationally-ranked No. 21 Bruno Kliskinic in an incredibly tight 7-6, 7-5 contest. The Black and Gold closed out the week by facing off against Incarnate Word. In that match-up, the CU junior handled Incarnate Word’s Chris Lawson 6-0, 6-2. Janjic’s superb efforts in the week allowed him to improve his overall singles record to 15-5.

WOMEN’S
Julia Puckhaber, Cameron University, JR, Hambergen, Germany
Puckhaber went 3-0 in singles play during the week and collected a doubles victory as well. Puckhaber started the week’s play by picking up a huge 7-6, 6-3 win over Abilene Christian’s Micah Hermsdorf. Hermsdorf is ranked No. 12 in the nation. The next action for Puckhaber would come against conference opponent Texas A&M-Kingsville. In that contest the CU junior would remarkably drop just one game in combined singles and doubles play. Puckhaber and partner Amanda Moberg thumped Danielle Moore and Sondra Cui by a score of 8-1 at the top doubles position. Puckhaber then double bageled Victoria Rios at the No. 2 singles spot. The Aggies closed out the week by securing another conference win, this time over Incarnate Word. In that contest, Puckhaber pounded Maggae Doney in a 6-3, 6-1 decision.
