LSC announces softball academic awards

Texas Woman’s shortstop Bailey Vrazel headlined the Lone Star Conference Softball All-Academic teams, respectively; as the league’s annual academic awards were announced Thursday at the championship banquet.

Vrazel, a sophomore from Danbury, Texas, was named Academic Player of the Year. She leads all collegiate softball players (DI, DII, DIII & NAIA) in steals with 74, and ranks first in the LSC in runs scored (60) and third in hits (68).

To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and have reached sophomore status both athletically and academically. The Academic Player of Year award and All-Academic Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league’s sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement.

Joining Vrazel on the All-Academic Team was her teammate Tiffany Weise, West Texas A&M’s Alyssa Lemos and Marci Womack, Abilene Christian’s Shelby Hall and Peyton Mosley, Incarnate Word’s Mallory Henry, Midwestern State’s Mallory Mooney, Cameron’s Carrie Dilks, and Tarleton State’s Katie Welborn.

Dilks earned all-academic recognition for the third straight year, while Hall and Henry were each repeat selections.
