The Texas A&M-Kingsville men finished seventh, while the Angelo State and Abilene Christian women ended up eighth and 11th, respectively, at the 2013 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Pueblo, Colo.
The Javelinas tallied 30 points by virtue of three individual national titles as Jeron Robinson won the high jump, Jordan Yamoah captured the pole vault and CJ Griggs earned his second straight triple jump crown.
Two months after winning the Indoor Track and Field Championship in the high jump with a mark of 7-4.25 (2.24m), Robinson duplicated the feat to set a facility record. In a final that went much the same as indoor finals, the sophomore again knocked off Lake Erie’s Edward Dudley, who was the reigning outdoor champion, in a two-person duel.
Yamoah cleared a personal best of 17-8.5 (5.40m) to win the pole vault competition and pull the indoor-outdoor double. During the indoor season, the freshman won the national championship title in Birmingham, Ala., when he cleared 17-4.5 (5.30m).
Griggs defended his national title with a 52-5.25 (15.98m) leap during the triple jump. His mark was almost seven inches farther than the second place leap and just .75 inches off his personal best jump.
ACU’s Amanda Ouedraogo upset ASU’s Kearah Danville in the women's triple jump to claim the individual title. The senior trailed Danville after the three preliminary rounds, but Ouedraogo turned in the best jump of her collegiate career, a wind-aided 44-.75 (13.43m), in the fourth round to take a three-centimeter lead. She is only the third D-II jumper ever to eclipse 44 feet along with Diana Wills (1990) and Nkeiruka Domike (2011).
For the Rambelles both Danville and Jaylen Rodgers earned runner-up finishes. Rodgers finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:09.17.
A total of 27 LSC athletes earned All-America honors, which are awarded to those who earn any portion of a team point at the national championships.
With a strong finish in the final day of competition, Saint Augustine's blew away the rest of the men’s field with a 48-point victory en route to its 12th outdoor national championship, its first since 2010.
Academy of Art, this season's indoor champion, continued its momentum and edged Johnson C. Smith by six points to claim the 2013 outdoor women's track & field title on Saturday in Pueblo, Colo.
