The Tarleton State TexAnn golf team carded a final round 16-over, 300, to finish in third place at 59-over (300-299-296-300=1,195) and earn the program's highest finish at the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships at Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, N.C.
Tarleton recorded a new school record for a low score at the NCAA Championships, bettering the program's previous mark of 1,206 by nine strokes.
Prior to today's third place finish, the TexAnns had come in fourth place on two occasions.
"We had a really good week," Tarleton head coach Jerry Doyle said. "This is a really tough course and it is hard to walk, but I thought we came out and played some of our best golf than we have all season."
Tarleton finished in third behind Lynn, who won the championship for a second straight year with a final score of +28 (294-297-291-282=1,164), and just two stokes behind Barry, who finished in second place with a score of +57 (305-289-301-298=1,193).
Senior Jessica Pickwick finished in a tie for fifth place with a four-day score of +9 (73-74-71-75=293) and set a new school record for lowest individual score at a NCAA Championships event.
Sophomore Isabel Jimenez-Perea tied for 12th place overall with a score of +14 (79-74-70-75=298) and Sharon Lau finished right behind her in 15th place with a score of +15 (73-75-77-74=299).
Playing in their first NCAA Championship event, freshmen Beatriz Prados and Maraea Durie both tallied top-60 finishes. Prados finished in a tie for 36th place with a score of +23 (77-76-78-76=307), while Durie carded her best round on the week on Saturday to finish in 58th place with a score of +36 (77-83-84-76=320).
Lynn's Louise Manalo, who began the day in a tie for fourth place, won the individual title with a score of three-over (72-73-74-68=287), finishing one stroke ahead of her teammate Jessica Bradley, who finished in second with a score of four-over (72-76-69-71=288).
"Getting third overall is a great accomplishment for this team," Doyle said. "I think we had a shot to finish second, but the back nine gave us some fits, especially hole No. 16. But, overall, we are very happy with third place and having the highest finish in school history."
Competing as an individual, West Texas A&M sophomore Glory Jangthongsiri saved her best round for last as she fired a 74 on Saturday in the final round. She finished tied for 31st with a 72-hole score of 305.
