Baseball: Postseason awards announced

Over 40 baseball standouts were recognized Wednesday as the Lone Star Conference annual baseball postseason awards were announced prior to this week’s championship.

      The honorees included seven first-team selections for Angelo State who had a league-high 11 selections.

      The Rams Paxton DeLaGarza was tabbed Player of the Year, while Steve Naemark took home Pitcher of the Year honors.

      LSC Champions Texas A&M-Kingsville and West Texas A&M each had five first-teamers.  WT, who won its first title boasted 10 total picks, while TAMUK had seven after winning its sixth crown.

      The Javelinas Jason Gonzales and Buffs Matt Vanderburg shared Coach of the Year honors.

      Freshman of the Year acclaim went to ASU’s Kellen Rholl, Cameron’s Nolan Withrow, and Eastern New Mexico’s Zach Shank.

      Tarleton State and ENMU both had five selections, while CU added three players.

      A total of 41 student-athletes were acknowledged by the all-conference program, including at least one player from each of the six baseball teams in the LSC.  The awards are voted upon by the league coaches.
