Tarleton State’s Jakob Damstra was named Academic Player of the Year for the second straight year to headline the Lone Star Conference All-Academic Men’s Basketball Team, that was announced Tuesday by league officials at the LSC Awards Banquet in Allen, Texas.
Damstra, who was named to the team for the third consecutive year, has played in 24 games with eight starts for the Texans. He is averaging 2.3 rebounds and 1.1 points.
To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have reached sophomore status and carry at least a 3.30 grade point average. The All-Academic Team is selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league’s sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement.
Joining Damstra on the squad was Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Thomas Diaz, and West Texas A&M’s Rylan Gerber and Jeff Bonner.
