MSU lights up scoreboard; Cruises past ENMU

The Lone Star Conference regular-season champs looked every bit the part Wednesday night in the first round of the LSC Championship.

The Mustangs had all 14 players in uniform find in the scoring column, including four in double figures as the No. 1 seed dominated Eastern New Mexico, 112-68 at the Allen Event Center.

Senior guard Jordan Stevens, MSU’s leading scorer all season, led the way with 21 points. Khapri Alston had 14 points and seven rebounds, DeVaughn Jones had a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards and Hershell Grant scored 10. Junior center Trevor Fuller, the LSC’s Defensive Player of the Year, collected four more blocks along with four rebounds.

Only MSU one player – guard Pat Smith – had more than 20 minutes of action, but 12 players had more than 10 minutes on the floor.

The Mustangs, who currently hold the No. 1 spot in the latest South Central Regional rankings, improved to 22-5 and will play Friday night against the winner of Cameron-West Texas A&M. The Greyhounds wrap up their season with a 5-22 record.

Deyton De La Cerda and Kevin Saiz had 10 each for ENMU, which also had 10 players in the scoring column.

The Mustangs led 29-21 in the first half before using a 14-0 run to pull away for good. The Mustangs shot 59.0 percent in the first half and scored 63 points, before finishing with a 51.3 percent average for the game.
