LSC announces softball academic awards

West Texas A&M’s Kilee Halbert topped the Lone Star Conference Softball All-Academic team which was announced at the LSC Softball Championship banquet.

A sophomore nursing major from Dalhart, Texas, Halbert is 21-1 in the circle for the Lady Buffs.  She boasts a 2.10 ERA and 110 strikeouts in 136.2 innings pitched.  Halbert is the first WT player to earn top academic honors.

Joining Halbert on the All-Academic Team are teammates Allie Smith and Tori Bayer; Texas A&M-Commerce’s Monica Cherry and Kylene Hatton; Texas Woman's Katy Stephens and Nicole Nordie; Angelo State’s Kelly Johnson and Tarleton State’s Melody Mayse.

Bayer, Stephens, and Mayse were repeat selections.

To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and have reached sophomore status both athletically and academically. The Academic Player of Year award and All-Academic Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league’s sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement.
