Women’s Soccer: Preseason poll announced

In a close race, Texas A&M-Commerce topped the 2016 Lone Star Conference women’s soccer preseason poll released Wednesday.

A&M-C, the defending tournament champions, captured 10 of the 18 first-place votes for 115 total points to hold a slim margin over Angelo State.  The Rambelles, who won the LSC title last season, were second with the seven remaining top votes and 112 points.

Texas Woman’s ranked third with 77 points just in front of West Texas A&M in fourth (74).  Midwestern State was fifth (64) with Eastern New Mexico (36) and UT Permian Basin (26 and one top vote) rounding out the poll.

The 2016 soccer season starts on the pitch in early September.  Each of the seven LSC teams will play the other twice during the regular season, with the results of those contests to be used in determining the seeds for a six-team postseason conference tournament.  This year’s tournament will be hosted by the No. 1 seed November 3-4-6, 2016.
