LSC Volleyball preseason honors announced

Three Lone Star Conference volleyball standouts were honored Tuesday as league officials announced the 2017 Preseason Players of the Year.

Tarleton State’s Hailey Roberts was named Offensive Player of the Year, Eastern New Mexico’s Andrea Aguilar earned Defensive Player of the Year acclaim, and Angelo State’s Meghan Parker was tabbed Setter of the Year.

The league’s preseason awards were selected by a vote of LSC head coaches and sports information directors, plus various media representatives from throughout the region.

Roberts, a senior outside hitter from Cedar Park, Texas, was a first-team All-LSC selection after leading the league in kills (608) and kills per set (5.07).  She ranked second nationally in kills and points per set to earn first-team AVCA All-American and D2CCA Ron Lenz National Player of the Year honors.

Aguilar, a senior defensive specialist/libero from Clovis, New Mexico, earned second-team All-LSC honors after leading the league in digs per set (5.08).

Parker, a sophomore setter from San Antonio, earned LSC and AVCA Freshman of the Year honors with a league-best 1,424 assists in 2016.  She also paced the LSC with 11.48 assists per set to earn first-team All-LSC acclaim.

These talented players will lead their teams into the 2017 season, which begins in early September.  The LSC has 11 teams set to compete utilizing a one-conference double round-robin scheduling model, in which each team will play a home and away match against each of the other teams.
