Men’s Basketball postseason awards announced

For the second straight year, UT Permian Basin’s Daeshon Francis was named Player of the Year to take top billing as the Lone Star Conference men’s basketball postseason awards were announced Wednesday by league officials.
The awards announcement came Wednesday night at the championship banquet at Main Event in Frisco, Texas, where the LSC Basketball Championship tournament is set to begin on Thursday.  The men’s first-round games will be played Friday, March 2, and with the semifinals set for Saturday, March 3. Both the women’s and men’s championship games are on Sunday, March 4.
Joining Francis on the first team was Falcon teammate Josh Morris, Texas A&M-Commerce’s Reggie Reid, and West Texas A&M’s David Chavlovich and Ryan Quaid.
Defensive Player of the Year recognition went to UTPB’s Sammy Allen. On the all-defensive team with Allen was Midwestern State’s Devante Pullum, Tarleton State’s Josh Hawley, Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Robert Stevenson, and WT’s Quaid.
Additional special awards announced Wednesday included newcomer, freshman and coach of the year.
The Buffs Gaige Prim and Tom Brown were tabbed Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively.
A&M-C’s Reggie Reid was tabbed Newcomer of the Year.
Overall, 23 student-athletes were recognized by the all-conference program plus five on the all-defensive team.  The awards are voted upon by the league coaches.
