ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

MEN’S TRACK

4x100 Relay (Quinton Sansing, Tyrin Lewis, Jordan Atkinson, Nathan Stotts), West Texas A&M University

The quartet finished third in the 4x100-meter relay at the Texas Tech Fearless Champion Open on Saturday breaking the school record in the process. Their time of 40.35 is not only the fastest time run by WT but is also the fastest time in Division II so far this season and a provisional qualifier.

CO-MEN’S FIELD

Josh Boateng, Texas A&M University-Commerce, JR, Learning & Technology, St. George's, Grenada

Boateng earned an automatic qualifying mark, provisional qualifying mark, and two event wins in the inaugural East Texas Quad. In the discus, Boateng earned an automatic qualifying mark with the nation's longest throw this season at 186-1 (56.73m), which also places him in the top 10 this year in all divisions. In the shot put, he launched the shot 57-7.5 (17.56m) for a provisional qualifying mark, the second-best in the LSC this season, and eighth-best in the nation.

Abraham Seaneke, West Texas A&M University, SR, Sport and Exercise Science, Kokrobite, Ghana, Ebenezer Senior

Seaneke now ranks first in the nation in the long jump after his impressive performance this past weekend at the Texas Tech Fearless Champion Open. The senior put together one of the best sets of his career jumping over 25 feet on three different attempts including a leap of 25-0.75 (7.64m) to win the event. That is the second-best mark in program history and ranks first in Division II by five inches over Bjoern Klehn from Christian Brothers.

WOMEN’S TRACK

Danee Bustos, Eastern New Mexico University, SR, Communicative Disorders, Belen, N.M., Belen HS

Bustos won the 200-meter dash after crossing the finish line in 24.51 at the Greyhound Open on March 23. After being converted down to 24.58 due to elevation, the mark currently stands as the sixth fastest time in all of Division II this season. Bustos was also a part of the 4x100-meter relay team that turned in a time of 47.63, which marks the 30th best time in Division II after being converted down to 47.75. Bustos was also part of the 4x400-meter relay team that won their event with a time of 4:18.58.

CO-WOMEN’S FIELD

Racheal Somoye, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, SR, Marketing, Houston, Texas, Alief Taylor HS

Somoye currently stands alone atop the NCAA Descending Order List in the hammer throw as her toss of 192-1 (58.54m) put her in the top spot on the podium at the 12th Annual Cactus Cup with the lone NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark of the event. Her second throw in the event is nearly a full meter farther than the next qualifier in Division II and she set a new meet record in the process.

Zada Swoopes, West Texas A&M University, SO, Sports and exercise science, Whitewright, Texas, Whitewright

Swoopes is the new national leader in the women’s shot put following her performance at the Texas Tech Fearless Champion Open on Saturday. The sophomore finished second in a field full of Division I competitors with her throw of 51-5.75 (15.69m) which is the fifth-best mark in program history. She also recorded a sixth-place finish in the discus with a seasonal best mark of 165-3 (50.38m) moving her up to sixth in the nation in the event.
