West Texas A&M’s Lexy Hightower was tabbed Player of the Year to take top billing as the Lone Star Conference women’s basketball postseason awards were announced Wednesday by league officials.
The awards announcement came at the annual championship banquet at Main Event in Frisco, Texas, where the LSC Basketball Championship tournament is set to begin on Thursday at Dr Pepper Arena.
The women’s first-round games will be played Friday, March 8, and with the semifinals set for Saturday, March 9. Both the women’s and men’s championship games are on Sunday, March 10.
Hightower was joined on the All-LSC first team by Lady Buff teammate Tyesha Taylor, Angelo State’s Marquita Daniels, Eastern New Mexico’s Treyanna Clay, and Tarleton State’s Mackenzie Hailey
ASU’s Daniels claimed Defensive Player of the Year acclaim. With Daniels on the all-defensive team was ENMU’s Clay, Midwestern State’s Hannah Reynolds, TSU’s Hailey, and WT’s Delayah Harris.
Cameron’s Maighan Hedge was tabbed Freshman of the Year, while the Greyhounds Clay earned Newcomer of the Year distinction.
The Lady Buffs Kristen Mattio claimed Coach of the Year honors for the second straight year.
Overall, 25 student-athletes were recognized by the all-conference program plus five on the all-defensive team. The awards are voted upon by the league coaches.
