The Lone Star Conference recognized its softball standouts Thursday as the postseason awards were announced by league officials at the championship banquet.
LSC champion Texas A&M-Kingsville had eight players receive All-LSC distinction including a league-high five first-team honors.
TAMUK, which won the conference title for the second time with a 24-6 record, was represented on the All-LSC first team by Victoria Schoonard-Saborio, Anastasia Leibas, Loren Kelly, Breanna Smith, and Saidi Castillo.
The Javelinas claimed a pair of special awards as well. Castillo was named Co-Freshman of the Year and Craig Nicholson earned Coach of the Year acclaim.
West Texas A&M’s Kylee Moore claimed Player of the Year honors, while Texas A&M-Commerce’s Emily Otto was tabbed Pitcher of the Year.
Cameron’s Khmari Edwards picked up Co-Freshman of the Year acclaim, while Angelo State’s Hatty Shope was named Newcomer of the Year.
The Lions had nine players named to the all-conference team with two first-team honorees, while West Texas A&M had eight with four on the top squad. Cameron and Tarleton had seven players recognized, followed by Angelo State with five. Texas Woman’s had three, and Eastern New Mexico, Midwestern State, UT Permian Basin, and Western New Mexico one.
Overall, 51 student-athletes were honored by the all-conference program, with a player from all 11 LSC teams. The awards are voted upon by the league coaches, who determined a 20-player first team by position, along with second and third teams, consisting of 15 players, respectively, regardless of positions.
