LSC Outdoor Track and Field awards announced

A total of 117 athletes were recognized on the All-Lone Star Conference teams for their efforts at the 2019 LSC Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships.  The awards were announced Thursday by league officials.

Angelo State swept the men’s and women’s titles with the Rams winning their 13th title and the Rambelles claiming their 11th crown at the league’s outdoor meet May 2-3-4.

The list of all-conference performers includes the first team, which consists of event winners, all members of the winning relay teams, and athletes scoring 14 or more points at the LSC Championships.  The second team includes athletes scoring 8-13.9 points, and the third team those scoring 6-7.9 points.  Overall, 61 men and 56 women were recognized.

On the men’s side, ASU had 18 earn All-LSC honors with seven first-team performers, while West Texas A&M had 13, and Texas A&M-Commerce 11.

ASU led the women’s honorees with 16 including eight first-teamers, while WT had 10 and A&M-C nine.

In addition to the announcement of All-LSC performers, the league recognized four student-athletes and two coaches with individual awards.

ASU swept the men’s special awards. Z'Antyler Foster-Hooks earned the Cap Shelton Award as Outstanding Male Track Athlete, while Trpimir Siroki picked up the Oscar Strahan Award as Outstanding Male Field Athlete.  ASU’s Tom Dibbern was named Men’s Coach of the Year for the third time.

On the women’s side, A&M-C’s Eboni Coby received the Wes Kittley Award as Outstanding Female Track Athlete, while WT’s Norma Cunigan claimed the David Noble Award as Outstanding Female Field Athlete.  For the second straight year, the Rambelles Dibbern was tabbed Coach of the Year.

The special awards were voted upon by the league coaches.

The qualifiers for the NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be announced May 14 via NCAA.com press release.  The championships are May 23-25 at Javelina Stadium in Kingsville, Texas.
