FRISCO, Texas – Lubbock Christian’s Maddi Chitsey was named Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year to headline the Lone Star Conference women’s basketball postseason awards were announced Wednesday by league officials.
The awards announcement came at the annual championship banquet at Main Event in Frisco, Texas, where the LSC Basketball Championship tournament is set to begin on Thursday at Comerica Center. The women’s first-round games will be played Thursday, March 5, and with the semifinals set for Saturday, March 7. Both the women’s and men’s championship games are on Sunday, March 8.
Chitsey was joined on the All-LSC first team by ASU’s De'Anira Moore; Cameron’s Maighan Hedge, St. Edward's Deijah Blanks; St. Mary's Soteria Banks; Tarleton State’s Mackenzie Hailey, Texas A&M-Commerce’s Alexis Bryant, and West Texas A&M’s Abby Spurgin.
Joining Chitsey on the all-defensive team was Eastern New Mexico’s Alivia Lewis; A&M-C’s Bryant; and WT’s Spurgin and Tiana Parker.
SEU’s Blanks claimed Newcomer of the Year honors, while WT’s Braylyn Dollar took home Sixth Woman of the Year recognition. A&M-C’s Jason Burton earned Coach of the Year distinction.
The Lions Dyani Robinson earned Freshman of the Year recognition. Joining Robinson on the all-freshman squad was ASU’s Sawyer Lloyd; SEU’s Charli Becker; UAFS’ Hannah Boyett; and UT Permian Basin’s Holly Hemmeline.
Overall, 38 student-athletes were recognized by the all-conference program plus five on the all-defensive and all-freshman teams. The awards are voted upon by the league coaches.
