LSC Football Weekly Release - Week 8

Midwestern State tops the Lone Star Conference standings as the only unbeaten team at 4-0 in league play.
 
      This week’s schedule includes four LSC games.
 
      LSC football teams are 33-28 overall this season.  The squads are 7-5 combined versus the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Northern Sun Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams, which are also in NCAA Super Regional Four.

LSC TO HOST 2021 DIVISION II FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
After hosting two successful title games, the NCAA Division II Football Committee has chosen McKinney Independent School District Stadium in McKinney, Texas, as the host site of the 2021-25 Division II football national championship games.
 
      The 2021 title game is set for 8 p.m. CST on Saturday, Dec. 18 and will be televised by ESPNU.
 
      The Lone Star Conference in conjunction with McKinney ISD hosted the 2018 and 2019 championship games.  McKinney ISD Stadium and Community Event Center, a 12,000-seat facility built primarily for football, will host the Division II Football Championship games on Dec. 18, 2021; December 17, 2022; December 16, 2023; December 21, 2024; and December 20, 2025.
 
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Miklo Smalls, Texas A&M-Commerce, JR, Sport & Recreation Management, QB, Plano, Texas, Plano East Senior HS
Smalls threw for 21 completions on Saturday at West Texas A&M in the 15-3 win. He had 186 passing yards on 55 percent completion percentage. He also rushed in a nine-yard touchdown, the only touchdown scored by either team.
 
DEFENSIVE
Dee Walker, Texas A&M-Commerce, SR, Learning & Technology, LB, Moultrie, Ga., Colquitt County HS
Walker totaled 10 tackles in Saturday’s 15-3 win at West Texas A&M. Walker was part of the defensive unit that forced five takeaways while holding the Buffs to 233 yards. He had a tackle for loss as well.
 
SPECIAL TEAMS
Dominique Ramsey, Texas A&M-Commerce, SR, Organizational Development, PR/KR, Converse, Texas, Judson HS
Ramsey returned four punts for 37 yards on Saturday at West Texas A&M, he also had a kickoff return for 33 yards. Ramsey also had an interception in the fourth quarter on Saturday, which he returned for 24 yards to seal the 15-3 win. He leads the LSC with 323 punt return yards and 17 yards per punt return.

SELECTED NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
MJ Link, UT Permian Basin, broke the program record Saturday night for receiving touchdowns in a season when he caught his eighth late in the game in the 44-21 victory over Eastern New Mexico.  The junior has been electric this season with 516 yards and eight touchdowns on 30 catches, all among the top five in the Lone Star Conference.  Link has only been held out of the end zone once this season and now has 13 touchdown receptions in 12 games as a Falcon.
 
      Nathaniel Omayebu III, Angelo State, led the Rams in rushing against Simon Fraser, finishing with 112 yards on the night while scoring two touchdowns. He averaged 7.5 yards a carry as the Rams collected 282 total rushing yards in their 51-10 win over SFU.
 
      Derrian Forge, UT Permian Basin, led the stout Falcon defense with a career night on Homecoming.  The junior picked off two passes and returned one for six to seal the Falcons 44-21 win over Eastern New Mexico while leading the team with seven tackles.  Forge and the defense held the Greyhounds to zero points, six first downs, and 120 yards of offense in the second half.  In that half the defense was terrific on third down, as the Greyhounds were held to 1-for-7.  UTPB held ENMU to 290 yards in the game.
 
      Andrew Pitts, Angelo State, helped put together a strong defensive effort for the Rams in their win over Simon Fraser, holding SFU to only 190 yards of total offense. Pitts tallied three tackles on the day, including one for a loss, while returning an interception 45-yards for a touchdown. He has tallied two defensive touchdowns this season which is tied for first in the Lone Star Conference.
