Angelo State led the Lone Star Conference football awards with a league-high 11 first-team selections Friday when LSC officials announced its annual honors.
ASU had seven players on the first-team offense and four more on the top defense. Additionally, the Rams claimed three special awards. Nathan Omayebu III was named Offensive Back of the Year, Willis Patrick earned Offensive Lineman of the Year honors, and Hunter Kyle captured Defensive Player of the Year (J.V. Sikes award) acclaim.
Texas A&M-Commerce had seven on the first team, with five on defense and two on offense. The Lions Kader Kohou received Defensive Back of the Year distinction.
LSC Champion Midwestern State had six on the top team with five on offense and one on defense. The Mustangs also took home four individual awards. Dillon Sterling-Cole earned recognition as both the Offensive Player of the Year (J.W. Rollins award) and Newcomer of the Year. Jalen March was tabbed Offensive Freshman of the Year, while Bill Maskill took home Coach of the Year honors for the sixth time.
West Texas A&M’s JT Cavender claimed two individual awards, receiving Linebacker of the Year and Defensive Freshman of the Year distinction.
Eastern New Mexico’s Justin Manyweather picked up Receiver of the Year honors, while the Greyhounds Mazin Richards was tabbed Defensive Lineman of the Year.
WT was represented by four on the first team, while ENMU had two, and Texas A&M-Kingsville, UT Permian Basin, and Western New Mexico one.
Overall, 112 student-athletes were recognized by the LSC's postseason awards program, with 33 players named to the first team, 34 on the second team and another 45 gaining honorable mention. The all-conference honors were selected by the head coaches of the eight league teams.
