West Texas A&M claimed the 2021 Lone Star Conference Volleyball Tournament Championship with a 3-0 victory over St. Edward’s in the final Saturday in San Angelo, Texas.
WT (23-4) won its 16th LSC tournament title and earned the league’s automatic bid to the 2021 NCAA Division II Volleyball Championship. The Lady Buffs, who played in the championship match for the 17th time, improved to 16-1 in the tournament final.
SEU, who finished with a 16-12 overall record, saw its remarkable postseason run as the 10th seed end in the final.
WT won its first tournament title since 2013, with a stifling defensive performance. The Lady Buffs held SEU to a .042 hitting percentage, the second-lowest attacking rate for the Hilltoppers this season.
Torrey Miller’s double-double of 14 kills and 11 digs led the way for WT. The sophomore added seven block assists on her way to All-Tournament Team MVP honors. Kayla Elliott added seven kills, eight blocks and a pair of service aces, and Chandler Vogel came up with 13 digs and dished out six assists. Both received all-tournament team recognition.
The Hilltoppers were led by Caroline Swan and Kaitlyn Krafka offensively as the pair combined for 15 kills in the match. Krafka had a double-double, adding 13 digs. Libero Sarah Konovodoff picked up a match-high 19 digs, leading a defense that held the Lady Buffs to a .208 hitting percentage. Krafka and Konovodoff received spots on the all-tournament team.
The 2021 NCAA DII championship field will be announced Monday, November 22, at 6:30 p.m. CT on NCAA.com.
