LSC Softball Weekly Release - Week 2

Lone Star Conference softball teams returned to action after snow and cold weather cancelled several games last week.   Two teams - Oklahoma Christian and West Texas A&M – remain undefeated this year.

LSC teams are playing a single round-robin schedule with a doubleheader (two games) against each league opponent starting on March 5.  The LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular-season conference games.

Swinney went 3-for-4 on Saturday afternoon with three runs scored and her third double of opening weekend as UT Tyler finished off game number two with a 10-3 win. She added another 3-for-4 effort in the Patriots' third straight win to open the season, a 7-1 victory over UT Permian Basin.
Kayla Gonzales, Texas A&M-Kingsville, swung a red-hot bat during a weekend in which she helped the Javelinas go 3-1. In her team's first game on Saturday, she went 2-for-3, drove in two runs and scored twice and she added another hit and RBI later in day in a matchup against Columbia College. In a Sunday rematch with the Cougars, Gonzales' go-ahead, sixth-inning, two-run single provided the difference in a 3-1 TAMUK win. She closed out the weekend with three more knocks against St. Mary's to go with a stolen base and three more RBIs, bringing her total for the week to seven. Overall, Gonzales collected seven hits in 12 at-bats for a .583 average with .600 on-base percentage.
Jayme Johns, St. Mary's, returned to the lineup in a big way this weekend as the junior helped lead St. Mary's to a 2-2 record. Johns hit .571 in four games with eight hits, four RBI, and four runs scored.
Jade Strother, Angelo State, had an amazing weekend for the Rambelles in their annual George & Ola McCorkle Challenge, finishing with a batting average of .528 after the second day. Busby opened the weekend with a 2-3 game with three RBI and two runs scored against Nebraska-Kearney, hitting the 51st homer of her career in the second inning. Her 21 punchouts for the week were accompanied by just two walks and she held the opposition to a .167 batting average.
