PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
MEN’S
Angel Palacios, Midwestern State, SR, Management Information Systems, Piedras Negras, Mexico, Everman HS
Angel Palacios went 4-0 in singles play and 3-0 in doubles during the week. The senior overcame 15th-ranked Marko Nikoliuk in singles 6-4, 6-2 to help the Mustangs defeat No. 25 Southern Arkansas. His 6-1, 6-1 singles win also helped the team win over No. 18 Southeastern Oklahoma. Palacios and doubles partner, Ben Westwick, went 3-0 from the No. 2 doubles line with one match going unfinished. The two defeated Division II’s 25th-ranked duo from Southeastern Oklahoma 6-1.

WOMEN’S
Virginie Becht, Angelo State, SR, Communication, Vero Beach, Fla., Indian River Charter HS
Virginie Becht helped the Belles to a 2-0 record over the weekend, winning both of her singles matches including a crucial three-set victory that set up the overall match point against then No. 14 Southwest Baptist. The senior also picked up a straight-set win 6-0, 6-3 against Southeastern Oklahoma. The only blemish to Becht’s week was a narrow 7-5 loss at No. 3 doubles to SBU. Becht has earned four straight wins in singles play as the 13th-ranked Belles improve to 5-3 on the season and avenged their loss to SBU at the ITA Division II Indoor National Championship in February.
