Four Lone Star Conference baseball teams went unbeaten last week sweeping their league series. No. 12 West Texas A&M, Oklahoma Christian, Texas A&M-Kingsville and UT Permian Basin all picked up three LSC wins. No. 17 UT Tyler and Lubbock Christian also won their series with each picking up two wins in their conference games last week.
LSC teams are playing a single round-robin schedule with three nine-inning games against each league opponent. The LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular season conference games.

LSC BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
The LSC Baseball Championship will be a two-week tournament featuring eight teams with the opening round on campus. The winners of each opening round series will advance to a double-elimination tournament played the following weekend. The winner of the postseason tournament will be recognized as the LSC Tournament Champion and receive the conference’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA postseason.

Chance Westervelt’s hot hitting continued as he posted a .625 batting average, .786 on-base percentage and 1.625 slugging percentage while leading OC to its first-ever three-game road sweep at St. Edward’s, a run that’s extended the Eagles’ road winning streak to five games. In the opener, a 6-4 win, he hit the decisive two-run home run in the sixth inning. In an 8-3 win in the second game, he had an RBI triple during a three-run first inning and a solo home run in the seventh. He drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning of the series finale, driving in what proved to be the decisive run for the Eagles in a 7-6 win. He drew six walks during the series to go with his five hits (three for extra bases) and added four runs scored and a stolen base.

Cole Lee, normally OC’s starting center fielder, was a relief pitcher until two weeks ago when he was pressed into duty in OC’s starting rotation. He pitched a career-high seven innings during an 8-3 win at St. Edward’s on Sunday, allowing only two hits and one run while striking out five batters and walking none. The Hilltoppers batted just .080 against him. The win helped give OC its first-ever three-game sweep at St. Edward’s and helped extend the Eagles’ current road winning streak to five games.

SELECTED NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Eric Ortiz, West Texas A&M, led the No. 12 Buffaloes to an LSC weekend sweep of UAFS at Wilder Park as WT ran its win streak to five games, moving to 15-3 overall and 12-2 in league action. The Aguadilla, Puerto Rico native hit .500 on the weekend with two doubles and a homer to drive in eight RBI with 11 total bases for a slugging percentage of .917 while registering a walk for an on-base clip of .538. Defensively, Ortiz registered one putout and eight assists at the hot corner with a perfect fielding percentage.
Eduardo Acosta, Lubbock Christian, hit .412 from his leadoff spot during the weekend scoring a team-leading seven runs and driving in six himself. He had a triple and three home runs, two of which came in the same game, collecting 18 total bases and slugging 1.059 for the series.
Tanner Roach, UT Tyler, hit .462 for the week with a homer and a triple in No. 17 UT Tyler's 2-1 series win over Eastern New Mexico. Roach homered in game one and went 3-for-3 with three runs scored to begin his weekend. He added a triple during game one of Saturday's doubleheader as one of his three hits on the day to finish the weekend 6-for-13 with a team-high five runs and three RBI.
Chase Cos, St. Edward’s, led the Hilltoppers at home, hitting .500 in three games during a weekend series against Oklahoma Christian. He was one of the only constants during a tough weekend for SEU and scored three runs while driving in one of his own.
Brandon Broughton, St. Mary’s, led the Rattlers with four of the team's nine extra-base hits in the series against Texas A&M-Kingsville. He tallied three doubles and a home run for a .417 batting average with a .917 slugging percentage.
Johnnie Krawietz, UT Tyler, struck out nine and shutout Eastern New Mexico in his 6.0 innings of work to shut down the Greyhounds in his start over the weekend. Krawietz allowed just three hits and walked only a single batter to pick up the win in the Patriot's 12-0 run-rule win over ENMU on Friday night.
Mathieu Gauthier, West Texas A&M, continued to dominate for the No. 12 Buffaloes this past week leading them to a win over UAFS as part of a weekend sweep of the Lions. The Montreal, Quebec product allowed just one earned run on five hits with one walk and eight strikeouts on Friday night as the senior righty allowed an opposing batting average of .185 that included a streak of 13 straight Lions retired following a 90-minute lightning delay at Wilder Park.
