LSC Women’s Tennis Championship Central
The men’s and women’s brackets are set for the 2021 Lone Star Conference Tennis Championship in Waco, Texas, at the Waco Regional Tennis Center on April 29-30 and May 1.
The men’s tournament features a seven-team field, while the women’s tournament is comprised of eight LSC teams.
Cameron earned the top seed in the men’s bracket after earning a 5-2 record in conference matches. The Aggies claimed the top seed as the highest-ranked team in the regional rankings and will advance to the semifinals with a first-round bye. Midwestern State also finished 5-2 in the LSC, solidifying its spot as the No. 2 seed via a head-to-head win over St. Mary’s to close out the regular season. StMU is the No. 3 seed in the tournament going 5-2 in league matches. UT Permian Basin is the No. 4 seed, and DBU obtained the fifth seed. UAFS picked up the No. 6 seed, and Western New Mexico rounded out the tournament field as the seventh seed.
In the women’s championship, Angelo State secured the No. 1 overall seed after claiming at least a share of the regular-season title going 8-0 in conference with one match to play on Sunday. MSU procured the No. 2 spot in the tournament with an 8-1 overall record against league competition. The Mustangs only blemish this season was a loss to ASU earlier this month. StMU is the No. 3 seed after completing a 7-2 regular-season LSC record. Texas A&M-Kingsville captured the No. 4 seed followed by No. 5 DBU. CU took the sixth seed followed by No. 7 seeded UAFS and No. 8 seeded WNMU.
The tournament begins with quarterfinal matches on Thursday, April 29 followed by the semifinals on Friday, April 30. The championship matches will be played on Saturday, May 1 with the women’s final beginning at 9:30 a.m. followed by the men’s final at 1 p.m.
The tournament format is three 6-game pro set doubles matches with a 7-point tiebreak at 6-all. Following doubles matches, teams will play six best-of-three set singles matches. Once one team reaches four points, remaining singles matches will be abandoned.
The winner of each tournament will be named the Lone Star Conference Tennis Tournament Champion and earn the league’s automatic qualification to the 2021 NCAA Division II South Central Regional held May 10-11 in Arlington, Texas and hosted by Midwestern State.
