LSC Outdoor Track and Field Weekly Release - Week 4

Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track and Field athletes have recorded 15 NCAA Division II Automatic qualifying marks (11 men, 4 women) and 103 provisional efforts (60 men, 43 women).  See the LSC performance list here:

      The 2021 LSC Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held at West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas on May 6-7-8.
 
ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MEN’S TRACK
Benjamin Azamati, West Texas A&M, FR, Animal Science, Akim Oda, Ghana
Azamati now ranks first in the nation in the 200-meter dash following his performance at the Jo Meaker Classic and & Multi this past weekend in Canyon. The freshman ran 20.53 (20.59a) in his first time running the event outdoors to break the school record previously held by Kenny Jackson and Quinton Sansing.
 
CO-MEN’S FIELD
Josh Boateng, Texas A&M-Commerce, SR, Learning & Technology, St. George's, Grenada
Boateng automatically qualified for the outdoor national meet in the discus throw last weekend, winning the competition at the David Noble Relays with a national-best mark of 197-0 (60.04m). He is one of five collegians to top 60 meters this season.
 
Trpimir Siroki, Angelo State, JR, Electrical Engineering, Zagreb, Croatia, Prva Tehnicka Skola Tesla
Siroki hit an automatic qualifying mark in the decathlon for Angelo State in their annual home meet, the David Noble relays, with a score of 7,515 where he placed first. Siroki currently leads the conference and the nation in Division II in the decathlon for his performance. The junior from Croatia also hit two provisional marks in the long jump and the 110m hurdles, jumping a distance of 24-9.75 (7.56m), in the long jump and running a time of 14.50 in the hurdles. Siroki is currently ranked second in the long jump and fifth in the 100m hurdles in the conference.
 
WOMEN’S TRACK
DeOndra Green, West Texas A&M, FR, Interdisciplinary Studies, Montreal, Quebec, Riverdale
Green had another impressive weekend for the Lady Buffs as the freshman now ranks in the Top 5 in the nation in the 100-meter dash. She ran the opening leg on the 4x100-meter relay that ran the second-fastest time in program history, 45.25 (45.37a), and puts them first in NCAA Division II by close to half a second. She would later finish second in the 100m with the third-fastest time in the nation, 11.56 (11.59a).
 
WOMEN’S FIELD
Taylor Nelloms, West Texas A&M, FR, Sports and Exercise Science, Humble, Texas, Atascocita
Nelloms won two events at the Joe Meaker Classic & Multi this past weekend in Canyon. The freshman picked up a pair of provisional qualifying marks with a win in the high jump with a clearance of 5-6 (1.68m) and a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a mark off 10-6 (5.94m). She saved her best for last as the Humble native won the triple jump with the top mark in the nation this season, 43-0.5 (13.12m). That is also an auto qualifier and fourth-best mark in program history.

SELECTED NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
   Nicholas Ellisor, Angelo State, had a phenomenal week for the Rams in Angelo States annual home meet, the David Noble relays, as he placed second in the 400m dash with a provisional time of 47.06 for the NCAA Division II national meet. The junior from Coldspring currently leads the conference in the 400 and is ranked third in Division II. Ellisor is also a part of the 4x400m relay team, which placed first in the relays with a time of 3:12.22, which broke the meet record time. The Rams 4x400m relay team currently leads the conference and Division II with their time.
   Johnathon Harper, Texas A&M-Kingsville, ran a provisional qualifying 14.40 in the 110m hurdles at the David Noble Relays over the weekend to finish fourth overall. He added top-three finishes in his other events, including a 41.13 as part of the 4x100m relay team that finished third, a 3:15.81 as part of the 4x400m relay team that finished third, and a height of 15-5.5 (4.71m) in the pole vault to claim his third bronze of the meet.
   Noah Metzger, DBU, won the 5000 meters and placed second in the 1500 at the David Noble Relays last weekend.  Metzger clocked a time 15:10.07 in the 1500 to win the race by 18 seconds and posted a time of 4:04.53 in the 1500 to record two appearances on the podium.
   Marco Arevalo, Texas A&M-Kingsville, picked up his third provisional qualifying mark of the outdoor season with a toss of 55-7.5 (16.95m) in the shot put to finish second at the David Noble Relays. He was one of four Javelinas to finish top-five in the event and the mark set a new personal record for him in the event.
   Cade Halliburton, West Texas A&M, broke his own school record in the hammer throw on Friday afternoon at the Jo Meaker Classic & Multi hosted by West Texas A&M in Canyon. The senior finished fourth in one of the top hammer competitions in the nation as the two finishers threw over 236 feet. He had his best throw of the competition on his fifth attempt with a mark of 190-7 (58.09m). That is also the 16th best mark in the nation this season.
   Madison Brown, DBU, won both the 5000 meters and the 1500 at the David Noble Relays in San Angelo last weekend.  Brown crossed the finish line with a time of 18:03.00 in the 5000 and posted a time of 4:36.71 in the 1500. Brown is currently the No. 7 ranked female in the nation for the 5k.
   Taylor Roberson, Texas A&M-Kingsville, ran an 11.83 in the 100m over the weekend at the David Noble Relays to finish fourth in the event. The time went in as a provisional qualifying mark for her as the Bay City native has lowered her time in the 100m in three consecutive meets for the Javelinas.
   Kyra Winn, UT Tyler, was within striking distance of her own school-record 800m performance which she set just a week earlier, notching her second consecutive sub-2:20 performance in the event at the David Noble Relays (hosted by Angelo State) on April 2 as she finished with a time of 2:19.06, just a half-second off her own school record.
   Hailey Wanoreck, Texas A&M-Commerce, broke the school record in the hammer throw with the third-best throw in Division II this season at 190-6 (58.06m), winning the David Noble Relays competition.
   Karlea Duhon, Angelo State, hit a provisional qualifying mark for the Rambelles in their annual home meet, the David Noble relays, in the heptathlon with a score of 5,051 as she placed second in the event. Duhon currently leads the conference in the heptathlon and is currently ranked third in Division II. The sophomore from Tyler, Texas currently ranks second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.52 and is also ranked second in the conference in the long jump with a distance jumped of 18-4.25 (5.59m). She currently ranks fifth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:05.26, and fifth in the high jump with a height jumped of 5-3.25 (1.61m).
   Summer Grubbs, UT Tyler, shattered UTT’s heptathlon scoring record with 4,919 points at the David Noble Relays (hosted by Angelo State) March 31-April 1, and she also improved her own school record in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.30 seconds. In all, Grubbs had personal bests in 5 of the 7 events with her school-record scoring total in just her second career heptathlon. Grubbs not only broke her own 100 meter hurdles record, she also notched personal outdoor bests in the high jump at 5-1 (1.55m), shot put  at 32-0.25 (9.76m), javelin at 97-10 (29.81m), and the 800 meters (2:29.13).  Grubbs' performance meets this year's NCAA Division II outdoor national championship qualifying standards, although the Patriots are not eligible to compete at the national meet until the university is granted active membership (expected in summer 2021). Her score of 4,919 points ranks sixth nationally in Division II.
   Veronica Garcia, Texas A&M-Kingsville, posted a provisional qualifying mark in the discus at 149-7 (45.59m) to finish second in the event at the David Noble Relays over the weekend. She bested her previous mark from the Wes Kittley Invitational by a half-foot and added a toss of 123-10 (37.75m) in the hammer throw to pick up her second top-10 finish of the meet.
