TAMUK’s Spinn leads nine on baseball All-Academic Team

Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Seth Spinn was named the Lone Star Conference Baseball Academic Player of the Year to lead a group of nine players on the All-Academic Team. The awards were announced by the league on Wednesday.

Spinn, a senior from Holland, Texas, claimed the league’s top academic award with a 4.0 grade point average as a Criminal Justice major at TAMUK. The outfielder led the Javelinas in almost every major statistical offensive category and currently sits in the top 20 in the LSC in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, triples and walks. Spinn has played and started in 32 games for TAMUK this season.

Spinn headlined the squad who were honored for their work in the classroom and on the field.  He was joined on the team by Angelo State’s Mat Szabo and Jackson Hardy, Oklahoma Christian’s Gabe Rodery, St. Edward’s Dylan Mackin, UAFS’ Nolan Riley, UT Tyler’s Jordan Gochenour and the West Texas A&M duo of Reese Patterson and Cade Engle.

The All-Academic Team is selected by the LSC’s sports information directors who select players based on both athletic and academic achievement. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have played in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests, reached sophomore athletic and academic standing, completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution and have a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average based on the 4.0 system for their entire collegiate career.
