St. Mary’s Jeremiah Sanchez took home three individual honors including Lone Star Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Year recognition as the league revealed the annual awards on Thursday.
Sanchez was named the conference’s top player and was recognized as the Sportsmanship Player of the Year and Senior of the Year while also collecting the first-team acclaim in both singles and doubles.
UT Tyler’s Egor Shestakov received Freshman of the Year honors, while teammate Gonzalo Fernandez Gil collected LSC Newcomer of the Year accolades. The duo helped lead the Patriots to their first LSC men’s tennis championship. UTT head coach Adam Cohen garnered LSC Coach of the Year recognition.
Eight standout student-athletes were commended for their sportsmanship, character and ethical conduct in competition throughout the season on the LSC Men's Tennis Sportsmanship Team. Players were selected by LSC head coaches, with each institution earning one nomination to the team.
In all, 30 student-athletes were recognized with all-conference awards. UTT led the way with six all-conference selections followed by Midwestern State and StMU with five, Cameron with four, and DBU and UT Permian Basin with three. Western New Mexico earned two spots on the league’s postseason awards list.
