PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Clayton Roberts, UT Permian Basin, JR, Business, QB, Houston, TX, St. Pius X HS
Roberts could do no wrong on Saturday as the junior tossed six touchdown passes, setting a new single game program record and extended the team's winning streak to eight. The Houston native was just one score away from tying the single game Lone Star Conference record for touchdown passes, last accomplished in 2013. He did it while being extremely efficient, completing 23 of 32 passes for 281 yards and didn't turn the ball over. Roberts spread the ball around, finding four different receivers for scores including MJ Link and Jordan Smart twice as the Falcons handily defeated West Texas A&M for the first time in program history. Through two weeks, Roberts leads the LSC in touchdown passes (8), passing yards (525), completions (41), and passing efficiency (182.8) and is the only starting quarterback in the LSC without an interception. Nationally Roberts is tied for second in passing touchdowns.
DEFENSIVE
Dylon Davis, Midwestern State, SO, Criminal Justice, CB, Abilene, Texas, Cooper HS
Davis sparked the biggest comeback in school history with a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown, then forced a fumble on the next possession which led to a field goal to help Midwestern State storm back for a 31-30 win over No. 5 Texas A&M-Commerce after trailing 23-0 early in the second quarter. Davis also led the Mustangs with nine tackles including one for a loss to go along with another pass breakup. The sophomore from Abilene delivered his second pick six of the season to match Steve Prestwood (1990) for the most interception returns for a touchdown in any MSU season. He needed just two games to also match Prestwood and Ricky Weaver for the most interception returns for touchdowns in an MSU career.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Ritse Vaes, Midwestern State, FR, Criminal Justice, K, Wichita Falls, Texas, Hirschi HS
Vaes drilled a 42-yard field goal and was a perfect 5-for-5 on point after attempts in his collegiate debut to help Midwestern State overcome a 23-point first half deficit to take down No. 5-ranked Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday night at Choctaw Stadium.
