Angelo State headlined the Lone Star Conference football awards with a league-high 13 first-team selections Thursday when LSC officials announced its annual honors.
ASU, the LSC champions with a perfect 9-0 league record, had six players on the first-team offense and seven more on the top defense. Additionally, the Rams five three special awards. Nate Omayebu III was named Offensive Back of the Year for the second straight year, Jake Long claimed Offensive Lineman of the Year honors, Weston Bauer earned Defensive Lineman of the Year recognition, Andrew Pitts was tabbed Defensive Back of the Year, and Jeff Girsch took home Coach of the Year honors for the second time.
UT Permian Basin’s MJ Link captured two individual awards, receiving Offensive Player of the Year (J.W. Rollins award) and Receiver of the Year merit. The Falcons Victor Idusuyi picked up Defensive Freshman of the Year honors.
Western Oregon’s Jaylin Parnell earned two individual awards as the Defensive Player of the Year (J.V. Sikes award) and Linebacker of the Year.
Eastern New Mexico’s Asa Wondeh picked up Newcomer of the Year honors, and Midwestern State’s Devin Cross was named Offensive Freshman of the Year to round out the special awards.
Central Washington was represented by five on the first team, while WOU had four, and MSU and Texas A&M-Kingsville each had three. ENMU, UTPB, West Texas A&M, and Western New Mexico had one apiece.
Overall, 138 student-athletes were recognized by the LSC's postseason awards program, with 32 players named to the first team, 33 on the second team and another 72 attaining honorable mention. The all-conference honors were selected by the head coaches of the 10 league teams.
