LSC INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MEN’S TRACK
Benjamin Azamati, West Texas A&M, SO, Animal Sciences, Akim Oda, Ghana
Azamati earned a provisional mark last weekend as he made his 200-meter debut at the Texas Tech Shootout where he ran the program’s second-fastest time. The sophomore finished seventh in the event as the top Division II finisher with a time of 21.08, which is just .09 seconds off from his own school record. His time in the 200m marks the fastest in the Lone Star Conference this season and third in the nation.
MEN’S FIELD
Ushan Perera, Texas A&M-Commerce, SO, Construction Engineering, Mahabage, Sri Lanka
Perera started his season with a bang on Saturday at Texas Tech. He cleared 7-4.5 (2.25m) in the high jump, which is best in the country by 0.6 meters, tied for third among all three NCAA divisions, seventh best in Division II history, and 11th in the world in indoor meets this season. He nearly missed his personal best of 2.26m.
WOMEN’S TRACK
Leah Belfield, West Texas A&M, SO, Sports and Exercise Science, Te Awamutu, New Zealand, Te Awamutu
Belfield picked up her third provisional mark of the season as the sprinter broke the school’s indoor 200-meter record at the Texas Tech Shootout last weekend. She was the top Division II finisher as the sophomore from New Zealand ran 24.17 to place ninth in the finals just .07 short of matching Baylor’s Demitra Carter. With altitude conversion, Belfield’s time translates to 24.24 which is the fourth fastest time in Division II this season.
WOMEN’S FIELD
Antonija Radic, Angelo State, SR, Kinesiology, Knin, Croatia, Lobre Monti
While competing at the Texas Tech Shootout, Radic tallied two top 10 Division II performances. She earned a provisional mark in the long jump, hitting a distance of 19-7 (5.97m) while also improving on her previous provisional in the triple jump with a jump of 41-11.25 (12.78m). She ranks sixth in the country in the long jump and second in the triple jump.

SELECTED NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Jordan Hollis, Texas A&M-Commerce, ran a NCAA provisional and best time in the LSC this season of 48.21 seconds in the 400-meter race at the Texas Tech Shootout. That time is also 19th in the country this season. He also timed 21.55 seconds in the 200-meter dash, which is fifth in the LSC, and 25th in the country. Over the weekend, he competed in the 4x400 relay and timed 3:17.72 as well.
Angel Contreras, UT Tyler, dazzled in the distance runs at the 7th Annual Indoor Gorilla Classic this past weekend as he earned two top five placements. Competing first in the 5000 meters on Friday evening, Contreras ran a time of 14:42.04 to finish in second place in the event. To add to that event, he competed in the 3000 meters less than 24 hours later and ran a time of 8:19.98 to place in fourth position in the competition.
Jared Gilley, DBU, broke the school record in the 800 meters with a time of 1:49.96 at the Grand Valley State Big Meet in Michigan, throwing down a monster 800m race in 1:49.96. Gilley's time was also good for the fifth-best mark in the nation, almost certainly securing Gilley's national championship bid. Gilley trailed the pack for most of the race, including sitting in last place with 150m to go, but dropped into another gear and beat his entire heat across the line.
Dylan Burrows, Oklahoma Christian, posted a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time in the 800 meters on Saturday during the Indoor Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kan. He finished third in a 70-man race with a time of 1:50.91, which ranks 21st in Division II, which puts him in serious contention for a spot in next month's Division II Indoor Championships.
D.J. Delancy, Texas A&M-Kingsville, recorded a first-place finish as well as a provisional mark at the Howie Ryan Invitational on Friday, with the Jamaican launching the shot put 56-0 (17.07m), besting seven NCAA Division I athletes. Additionally, Delancy placed fifth in the weight throw after heaving the implement 49-0.75 (14.95m) at the Yeoman Fieldhouse on the campus of Houston.
Mariana Shostak, Texas A&M-Commerce, made her collegiate debut on Saturday had two top three times in the LSC this season. She timed 56.53 in the 400-meter dash, which is third in the LSC this season and 30th in the country. She teamed up with three teammates to clock in a time of 3:46.82 in the 4x400 relay, which is best in the LSC and ninth in the country.
Cynai Christopher, Texas A&M-Kingsville, continued her stellar freshman season, logging a time of 58.08 in the 400-meter dash that placed her second behind a Houston Baptist student-athlete. The Missouri City, Texas native also led a 4x400m relay team to a sixth-place finish in 4:03.79 at the Howie Ryan Invitational in Houston.
Madison Brown, DBU, had an incredible weekend at the Grand Valley State Big Meet in both the 3000 meters and the mile. In the 3000 on Friday, Brown broke the school record with her own personal record of 9:36.76, good enough for 13th in the nation and a tentative national championship meet bid. In the mile on Saturday, Brown again set the school record with a personal record of 4:56.87, ranking her 44th in the nation.
Taylor Nelloms, West Texas A&M, collected a her third provisional of the season over the weekend as she recorded a season-best mark in the long jump at the Texas Tech Shootout. The sophomore finished third of the Section B event with a 18-11.25 (5.77m) mark on her sixth attempt. She now ranks third in the conference behind teammate Miriam Zanovello and 21st in Division II.
Minna Svaerd, Texas A&M-Commerce, had three top two marks in the LSC this past weekend at Texas Tech. She cleared 12-7.5 (3.85m) in the pole vault, which is tied for second best in the LSC this season and 26th in the country. She ran a time of 56.20 seconds in the 400-meter dash, which is second fastest in the LSC, best this past week, and 19th in the country. She also ran the fastest time in the LSC in the 4x400 relay of 3:46.82, which is also ninth in the country.
Kimberly Ortolon, Texas A&M-Kingsville, was crowned champion of the pole vault at the Howie Ryan Invitational as the junior cleared a bar of 12-7.5 (3.85m), besting athletes from Tulane, Houston, and Rice in the process.
