LSC Indoor Track and Field Weekly Release - Week 5

Lone Star Conference Indoor Track and Field athletes have recorded 71 NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks (44 men, 27 women). See the LSC performance list here: https://www.tfrrs.org/lists/3553.html

LSC INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MEN'S TRACK
Benjamin Azamati, West Texas A&M, SO, Animal Sciences, Akim Oda, Ghana
Azamati returned to the starting line in style as the sophomore broke his own school and Lone Star Conference 60-meter record in the preliminaries with a time of 6.55 at the New Mexico Classic. The Ghana product won the event after matching the indoor NCAA Division II record at 6.54, tying North Carolina Central's Jason Smoots NCAA record set back in 2003. Azamati's time in the finals defeated LSU's Da'Marcus Fleming by .06 seconds.

MEN'S FIELD
Gerard Bryant, West Texas A&M, SO, Criminal Justice, Harker Height, Texas, Harker Heights HS
Bryant broke his own school record in the heptathlon after the Amarillo native finished second in the competition with 5,249 points. Bryant finished first in the 60-meter hurdles of the heptathlon with a personal-best 8.48. The sophomore now ranks ninth in the nation and second in the LSC with his provisional mark.

WOMEN'S TRACK
Anna Salisbury, Lubbock Christian, FR, Psychology, Leander, Texas, Leander HS

Salisbury had a big day at the New Mexico Classic, setting a new school record in the 400-meter and earning an NCAA provisional mark while placing third in the 200-meter. Her provisional mark in the 400-meter, where she posted a time of 55.66 (converted for altitude). It is the fastest time in the LSC this year and the seventh-fastest mark in the nation. In addition, she took third in the 200-meter with a new PR of 24.94s.

WOMEN'S FIELD
Zada Swoopes, West Texas A&M, SR, Sports & Exercise Science, Whitewright, Texas, Whitewright HS

Swoopes continues to write the record books as the senior has the Top 5 marks in program history in the women's weight throw. The Whitewright, Texas product shattered her previous school record with a 63-4.0 (19.30m) provisional mark on her sixth attempt to finish first, nearly five feet ahead of New Mexico State's Phetisang Makhethe. Swoopes also won the shotput with her season-best mark 56-4.75 (17.19m), the best mark in NCAA Division II this season.
