St. Edward’s graduate student Logan Cook was named the Lone Star Conference Men’s Basketball Academic Player of the Year, leading a group of five standouts who earned academic honors the league announced on Wednesday.
To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have played in at least 50 percent of team’s contests, reached sophomore athletic and academic, completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution, and have a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average based on the 4.0 system for their entire collegiate career. The LSC All-Academic team is selected by a vote of the league’s sports information directors.
The SEU standout was joined on the team by three-time all-academic honoree Brock Schreiner of Cameron, DBU senior Julian Miranda, Lubbock Christian senior Parker Hicks and UT Tyler junior Milan Szabo.
Cook, a graduate student from Muenster, Texas, claimed the LSC’s top men’s basketball academic honor posting a 4.0-grade point average in the masters of business administration program at SEU. The Hilltoppers’ forward helped lead SEU to a 16-11 record this season overall and a 10-7 mark in conference. In addition, Cook ranked second in the LSC in rebounding during the regular season at 7.9 per contest and averaged 6.3 points per game while hitting 67.9 percent of his shots from the field. This is Cooks’ second straight season as a member of the LSC All-Academic Team, and he is the second Hilltopper in three seasons to claim the distinction.
