Cameron’s Maighan Hedge earned a second straight Lone Star Conference Women’s Basketball Academic Player of the Year honor, announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Hedge leads a group of five women’s basketball standouts, including three repeat selections, recognized for their work on the court and in the classroom as members of the 2022 LSC All-Academic Team. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have played in at least 50 percent of team’s contests, reached sophomore athletic and academic, completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution, and have a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average based on the 4.0 system for their entire collegiate career. The LSC All-Academic team is selected by a vote of the league’s sports information directors.
The now three-time all-academic honoree, Hedge, was joined on the team by Cameron teammate and two-time selection Stephanie Peterson, the Lubbock Christian duo of Allie Schulte, a two-time recipient, and Ashton Duncan, and Texas Woman's Sadie Moyer.
Hedge, a senior from Melbourne, Australia, posted a 3.97 cumulative grade point average as a sports and exercise science major at Cameron to claim top academic honors. She has led the Aggies to a 16-10 record overall this season and an 11-5 record against league competition. Hedge led the LSC during the 2021-22 regular season, putting up 20.6 points per game on 45.4 percent shooting from the field. Aggies’ leading scorer also posted the second-best three-point shooting percentage in the LSC at 41.1 percent.
