LSC Softball Weekly Release - Week 6

LSC SOFTBALL
Four teams - Lubbock Christian, St. Mary’s, Texas A&M-Commerce, and UT Tyler - lead the Lone Star Conference standings at 7-1 after two weeks of league action.
 
      LSC teams are playing a single round-robin schedule with a doubleheader (two games) against each league opponent.  The LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular-season conference games.  The top 10 teams will qualify for the single-elimination conference championship to determine the league’s tournament champion.
 
      In the NCAA Division II South Central Region, LSC teams are 37-18 combined versus Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference competition.

SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTER
Sabrina Anguiano, Texas A&M-Commerce, SR, Health & Kinesiology, SS, Riverside, Calif.
Anguiano was retired just one in 11 at-bats this past weekend, while also drawing a walk, and hitting a team-leading three home runs in four Lion wins. She hit .909 (10-for-11) with two doubles and seven RBI.  She had at least one RBI in all four games, and a home run in three of the four games. She had three RBIs in game two against Western New Mexico, while going 5 for 5 in two games against UT Permian Basin on Sunday.

Genesis Armendariz, Angelo State, SO, Kinesiology, P, Hobbs, N. M., Hobbs HS
Armendariz was the most consistent performer in the circle for the Rambelles, picking up a pair of wins as the Rambelles went 3-1 this past week. Against Eastern New Mexico, she picked up the complete-game victory, only allowing five hits and one run while striking out five Greyhounds as the Rambelles claimed a 2-1 walk-off victory. Against No. 6 West Texas A&M, she picked up her second complete-game win, allowing six hits and one earned run while striking out seven, with the Rambelles run-ruling the Lady Buffs in six innings. Her seven complete games this season ranks her third in the LSC.

SELECTED NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Victoria Aldridge, St. Mary's, hit an astounding .700 in the four games over the week, getting multi-hit games in three of the four with three doubles, four RBI and she also drew six walks for an on-base percentage of .813. She raised her season batting average by 41 points to .418 for the year in the 4-0 week with wins over Midwestern State and Texas Woman's. The senior also had a 1.000 slugging percentage, tying for the team lead with seven base knocks. Aldridge has now reached safely in 10 of the last 11 games for the Rattlers and was on base a total of 13 times in the four games.
 
      Ashlyn Lerma, Angelo State, played an important role for the Rambelles as their leadoff hitter this past week, reaching base a total of ten times in 15 plate appearances as the Rambelles went 3-1. In the doubleheader against Eastern New Mexico, she recorded three walks, scored a pair of runs and stole three bases as the Rambelles claimed both games against the Greyhounds. Against No. 6 West Texas A&M, she went 5-6 at the plate in two games, drawing a pair of walks and scoring five runs, also swiping five bases. Lerma is perfect in 23 steal attempts this season, which is second in the LSC.
 
      Brittni Rufus, West Texas A&M, led a Lady Buffs offense that recorded a pair of splits with nationally ranked programs Lubbock Christian and Angelo State. The sophomore from Mansfield went 3-for-4 against LCU in game one to help WT claim a 10-1 run-rule victory while scoring two runs.  She hit .750 again when she led the Lady Buffs with three hits against ASU with three runs to help WT split the series. On the weekend she hit .500 (7-for-14) with two doubles, one triple, a home run and three RBI while scoring six runs for WT.
 
      Hanna Hetherington, Midwestern State, continued a torrid pace at the plate hitting .500 with four home runs and seven RBIs to help Midwestern State to a 2-2 showing last week against St. Mary's and St. Edward's. The sophomore from Haslet clubbed two solo homers and scored three runs in Game 1 Saturday against St. Mary's, then belted her first collegiate grand slam and added another solo shot to finish with five RBIs in Game 1 against St. Edward's on Monday. Hetherington launched seven home runs over a five-game stretch from March 6-14 to move into a tie for second place on the Lone Star Conference leaderboard with eight round trippers. She also drew four walks finishing the week with a .643 on-base percentage while slugging 1.700.
 
      Kylie Janzen, Oklahoma Christian, helped OC win three of four games on the road at Texas A&M International (a sweep) and No. 9 Texas A&M-Kingsville (a split), hitting .429 with a double, a triple, seven RBIs, two runs scored, a .500 on-base percentage and a stolen base. She had three hits, including a two-run triple in the first inning, as OC won 11-5 in the second game at TAMUK, dealing the Javelinas their first home loss of the season. She also had a two-run single in the first inning of a 13-4 win at TAMIU.
 
      Ashley Perez, UT Tyler, broke the UT Tyler softball records for both RBI (194) and doubles (66) in a career while hitting .429 over the weekend to help lead #1 UT Tyler to sweeps over UT Permian Basin and Western New Mexico. Perez recorded a hit in all four games, and twice went for multi-hit efforts while also recording a team-high eight RBI between the four wins. She first topped the UT Tyler record books in dramatic fashion with a grand slam in the bottom of the third inning in a 13-0 run-rule of UT Permian Basin on Saturday afternoon in a game in which she went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and five RBI. That grand slam gave Perez the 194th RBI of her career, surpassing the previous career mark of 193 previously held by current UT Tyler Associate Head Coach Whitney Wyly. Perez didn't stop her ascent to the top of the record books on Saturday, and once again recorded a record-breaking hit on Sunday, a pair of doubles in the wins over Western New Mexico that served as the 66th and 67th of her career, breaking the previous program record of 65 in a career set by Joey Cronin. She had an extra-base hit in all four games this weekend, recorded at least one RBI in every game, and scored a pair of runs for a UT Tyler club that hit .402 for the weekend with 41 hits and 35 runs scored.
 
 
      Alyssa LeBlanc, Texas A&M-Commerce, recorded 19 strikeouts in two games this past weekend, including tying the program-record with 13 in game one against UT Permian Basin on Sunday. She allowed just two base runners all weekend, while helping the Lions go 2-0 in her two starts. She also added a home run and four RBIs offensively.
Josie Swafford, Cameron, Josie Swafford put together a solid week in the circle for the Aggies posting a 0.84 ERA and striking out 16 batters in three games. The junior struck out two batters in a hitless inning against No. 9 Texas A&M-Kingsville to start the weekend. Swafford then struck out 14 batters while giving up just one run on five hits in a win over Texas A&M International; her 14 K’s were the most by a CU pitcher since 2003.
 
      Catalina Cavazos, St. Mary's, improved to 11-0 on the season with a pair of wins, including a complete-game shutout at Texas Woman's. She didn't walk a single batter in the 10 innings, struck out six and held the Mustangs and Pioneers to just a .162 batting average. Cavazos has won her last 10 appearances -- all starts -- and has lowered her season ERA to 1.22. She hasn't walked a batter in her last 22 innings of work.
 
      Tatum Goff, UT Tyler, held a no-hitter through 4.2 innings of work against UT Permian Basin and then struck out four in her 3.1 innings pitched against Western New Mexico to total 8.0 innings while allowing just a single earned run this weekend. Goff also excelled at the plate for the Patriots, posting a .375 average with a start in the lineup in all four games, and totaled a homer and three RBI. Goff went for 4.2 innings on Saturday against UT Permian Basin and allowed just a single hit to the last batter that she faced in the effort while striking out three along the way. She then went to work in the circle against Western New Mexico in game two on Sunday and allowed just a single earned run in her 3.1 innings pitched. She finished Saturday 3-for-4 at the plate between the two games, including a 2-for-3 performance in game two in which she also started in the circle, recording three RBI and a homer along the way. Goff has now allowed just a single earned run in her last five appearances and holds a 1.22 ERA and a .409 batting average for the year.
 
      Emma Parrish, West Texas A&M, led the Lady Buffs on the mound with a 10-1 victory against nationally ranked Lubbock Christian and save in WT's 10-8 win over Angelo State.  She threw a season-high seven strikeouts in game one against ASU through 4 1/3 inning.  On the weekend the Frankfort, Ill. product threw 8 1/3 innings allowing six total runs (five earned) on 12 hits with one walk and 11 strikeouts.
